    Re: PCV System

Well, to start I had a crack in my Breather Tube. I replaced it, along with the valve cover gasket, and Now I am seeing oil in my pancake valve, a check valve and alot in my PCV valve. It is actually cake-ed up in my t housing that connects my breather hose, pcv, and the line that runs to the air intake. I was figuring that either my housing is not holding oil, its too much oil in the crank case, but it was leaking before, so I do not know. I am just trying to cover all the \basis before I put it back together...

    Re: PCV System

Normal. Now if you pull off your IC pipe and plenty of oil flows out of it you have a problem.

Sooooo, what does that mean, especially if you are not loosing oil? Mine seeps, but then you take the hose off and about 1-2 TSp's come out...

I've got small amounts of oil in my intake manifold. enough to make a drip when I removed the throttle body. I don't think that is normal, is it? I'm starting to think the seals on the turbo are gone.

IC pipe? I am sorry, we use alot of abreviations at the job, so IC does not immediately register with me..

That is not normal and your SMIC/FMIC is going to have plenty more if it is coming from your crank breather or turbo.

Just the way the system was designed since the oil in the vapor being sucked out of the crank case just builds up at the lowest point and then slowly moves its way toward the motor with the flow of air. If it gets to the SMIC or a FMIC if you have one then it ends up clogging up the core and decreasing how much air can flow thru it.

This is exactly why people put catch can setups on their car since any oil that gets into the system decreases power.

    Re: PCV System

I pulled my TB inlet hose off yesterday to replace the thermostat and the hose had oil on ints inner walls and was dripping a little. I cleaned that out and wiped the connection.

Makes me think that the SMIC has lots of oil in it then and I've had a nifty power loss lately. I was thinking of pulling both hoses off the IC and spraying throttle body cleaned or even brake cleaner down the top of the IC and having it degrease it and flow from the bottom into a pan?

Anything else I can spray there, I want to drown it in the stuff and then let it out at once.

Pull the SMIC out, plug one side, then fill it with cleaner or gas, plug the other end and shake it for a bit. This way you can clean all of it, just spraying it from the top with it still installed is only going to cause the stuff to run down just a few tubes inside core.

    Re: PCV System

It would seem that the oil resides mostly on the bottom of the SMIC and not so much in the tubes. People on vortex cleaned theirs and got almost 2 cups of oil out...thats crazy. They said it just flows out from the bottom like oil from oil pan during oil changes.

Well if it is in your TB hose it cant just be at the bottom of the SMIC can it?

    Re: PCV System

Some gets through for sure so the channels will be oily. I'll just drain it for now and see what I'm dealing with. I don't think the AWM even has a PCV.

All 1.8t's do. The AWM has it for both the crank case and valve cover while the earlier cars had it on just the crank case.

    Re: PCV System

I found my issue. I put my car back together and changed the pvc since I had it apart. I went to get an oil change and the guy told me that we take 3.7 to 4 quarts of oil......
I remember every time before this that the oil places put at least 5 quarts in my car. My crankcase was overfilled. I have a new issue now. I do not have any boost after utting my car back together. I think I put everything back on correctly. Can any breakdown the schematic to direct me where the hoses connect on the connections under the intake manifold?????????????

    Re: PCV System

If you have a dbw car one of those connections under the intake manifold goes to your BPV.
