What exactly is the difference between Standard, and Premium Leather

I just picked up my 03 A6, and it has the upgraded sport seats, and premium leather interior in platinum. Is the actual leather on the seats different, is it just in more places? I haven't been able to find a solid answer on this anywhere.

there are many different types of leather in the world. I think audi uses the word "premium" to describe a better quality surface on the seats.

I'm assuming it's still a 'sealed' leather, just a different quality, so it would still use the same care products.

yeah its definitely non-perforated like the leatherette products they use in the a4's and stuff like that.

The main difference I see in the leather is that the luxury package leather is a bit more rigid and durable. Probably a higher quality selection of hides are used versus the regular leather.

The main point in this topic is that if you want sport seats, you have to have the luxury package anyhow. This also inlcudes the sunshades.

Just an FYI for anyone reading this and looking to get an A6 2.7T:

If you are getting a 2.7T and want one between 2003-2004, you should know that the turbos on the tiptronic cars are revised from the older ones and cannot receive K04 turbos to upgrade to Stage 3. You have to have a 6-speed equipped car to use K04s.

Has anyone seen OEM sport seats anywhere for a decent price? I found some A4 sport seats and old Audi sport seats on ebay but nothing for teh A6.

Thanks Daft. I know you have a lot of knowledge on the 2.7t. What are the main differences between the motor in my 01 S4, and 03 A6, both 6-speeds. From reading up on things here and AW the only difference is the coil packs, and maybe the 03 uses a 'super G12 coolant'?

All 2000-2002 S4, 2000-2002 A6 and 2000-2002 allroad cars have the 2.7T APB motor.

All 2003-2004 A6 and 2003-2004 allroad cars have the BEL motor.

Ignition/MAF

The APB motors use the Beru coil packs that are bolted to the valve covers. They require the ICM modules that are bolted to the airbox and they can't run too much gap under 1.0bar or more of boost without misfires. The Beru coils are about $52ea.

The BEL motors use the Bremi coil packs that push into the valve covers. The nice advantage to the Bremis is that they have the ICM components built into them, they can run larger gaps with no misfires and they cost $30ea.

The APB motors in 2000 ran a Bosch MAF sensor. The 2001-2004 cars all run the Hitachi MAF (which is needed for stage 3).

Cooling

The later APB motors (2002) are plug & play compatible with the aux-pump relocation kit.

All BEL motors can use the aux-pump relocation kit.

ECU

All APB cars do not have immobilizer and can swap ECUs without starter interference.

All APB cars have Motronic ME7.1 ECUs.

Some APB equipped cars can swap ECUs between S4 and A6 cars. (depends on the ECU part number)

All BEL cars are equipped with Immobilizer III. You cannot swap ECUs without either disabling the Immobilizer portion of the ECU or getting the Immobilizer code to add to the new ECU.

All BEL cars have Motronic ME7.1.1 ECUs. These are a whole different set of maps, checksums and duty cycle ranges than the ME7.1 ECUs. Most chip tuners have Stage 1 software for ME7.1.1 but might not have any Stage 3 software for it.

Turbos

All APB motors can use the RS4's K04-25 & K04-26 as a Stage 3 upgrade part.

Only manual transmission BEL cars can use the RS4 K04-25 and K04-26.

That's about all the significant differences I can think of right now....
