LED License Plate Lights

White LED license plate lights.

Saw this on many of the other different car forums but not the b5..
what do you guys think? i kinda want to do it after getting my new hid headlights...think it would compliment it well..

all we need is 2 of the led bulbs correct (14.5v 39mm Fuse Style LEDs )? anything else?

I'm running the LED license plate lights, as well as the LED interior lights and it all looks really good IMO.

Love it! Would these be easy for a total newbie to install?

Yup!

They are very east to install. Just unscrew the two screws holding in the bulb cover/bulb holder right above the license plate and replace the bulb that's in there.

And if it doesn't light up the first time, just flip the bulb around since it's an LED they only work one direction.

I got all my LED's from 42DraftDesigns.com they were all direct replacements.

Lol. And it really makes your car have more of that "clean" look at night. Not to mention the cops won't be able to pull you over for not being able to read your plate.

does it really matter? I mean honestly, 90% of the time a cop is behind me he is riding my ass running my plates, there gunna do it either way, if he wants to run your plates he will, brighter lights will have no effect on that, just make them not squint when they try and read it driving behind you.. ha

hey, could someone show me a pic of the bulb or the type of led it is or a link? i wanna go to crappy tire and grab them for my licence plate since my bulbs are done and i dont want to get puled over

actually if you combo the plate LED's w/ "photoblocker" it can be a bitch to read your plate, but if you look at it straight on w/o thelights on you can't tell anything is different.

I have these as well, and honestly I think they are definitely too blue, and too bright.

They are definitely a lot higher color temp than me HID's, probably are 8000k compared to the HID's 4300k.

Seriously I wish they made LED's around 5000k it would look so much better!

Quick question. Seeing as how the LED's are only on one side of the bulb, wouldn't a person be able to just twist the bulb slightly to control the brightness to a degree? Kind of make the LED point more upward into the housing rather than full blast onto the plate. Just wondering cause I just ordered some of these as well.

I just called them and they said that for an A4 i would need supporting hardware and that the buld would not work with the stock setup- can u tell me exatly which bulb u ordered so i can order mine.

EDIT: Is it just me or does it look like your licence plate light is super super bright, (especially compaied to the pic below yours)

I ordered the 14.5v White Fuse style LED's and they work fine. I didn't have to change or get any supporting stuff at all. And I haven't had any problems with them.

I know for the Passat's and Jetta's (And I will assume our cars too) That 42DD suggest drilling a small hole in the plastic housing to vent the bulb cause they get hotter then the stock bulbs. But I haven't done this and neither have any of my friends that have them. So you should be fine there.

i bought LED's for some lights in my car. my rear plate light i bought in white, but it has a very light blue hue to it.. it look great. not nearly as bright in the picture posted above though, that looks overkill.. probably better in person.

i have a 6 led strip in each of my tag lights. i got them from a buddy that advertises on vortex. his small company is called backtobasics. the lights are sick. they illuminate the whole rear of the car. the light bounces off of my md tag [its white] i dont need reverse lights to get out of my garage. ill try to get some pics up

I ordered those in 6 volt on accident- retard... Which is why they burnt up. All my other lights are working great and I LOVE them.

I just installed my 42DD today, I threw a blanket over the trunk to make sure they were in correctly. They dont look like they are going to be bright enough. We shall see in 6 hours :)

this acutaly should be done, my old housings showed melting/bubling signs when I replaced them, and both had 1-1.5" cracks in them from the heat. The new bulbs had been in there mabye 3weeks?

i just ordered mine now so hopefully i will have them before the weekend, plus i just ordered my led's to do the LED's in the moulding next to the fog lights like the A3's......so hopefully by this weekend i will have some pics up with some new lighting
