what would an audi dealer or an indy shop charge to install a sport suspension? would it be around $300 as it is with coils?

figure out how much your dealer's labor rate is. should be posted up in your service dept at the dealership and it should be posted up at your indy shop as well.

    Re: sport suspension installation

^^its not really big bucks its their labor rate

example my dealership goes for $125/hour labor where as my shop charges about $70/hour..$55 difference it really adds up after a few hours

    Re: sport suspension installation

yeah i figured it would make more sense to get it done at an independent shop... so it's around $70 an hour for what... 3-4 hours of work to install it?

    Re: sport suspension installation

well $70 is an average, all shops vary. a coilover install i was quoted for a while ago was about 5 hours worth of labor. so 3-4 seems about right

If there is a racing shop near you, you may want to give them a call. They may typically be the cheapest as they will have the most experience with those types of installs. The race shop near me charges a flat rate of $250 for a coil over install set to the height you desire.

the only reason is money; i'd love to wait until i've saved up enough for coils or springs + shocks but i'm getting pretty tired of my stock 4 x 4 status

You buying used or new? Might be just me but if I am gonna pay for the install, might was well put in something that will make the car handle better and look different than other A4's on the road.

I had 600 miles on my car while on stock 4x4 suspension. Hated every mile of it so I feel your pain!

You should complete the sport suspensions with Eibach Pro kit springs........Cheap and gives you an extra 0.45 over the original sport springs.

    Re: sport suspension installation

I paid around $300 to have the oem sport suspension installed with an RS4 sway bar in Pennsylvania. I got paranoid about using after market springs as many claimed that they wear out the shocks/struts quicker. It was a nice upgrade over stock but would have loved to install a set of CO's...

I agree... I was originally going to just put lowering springs on my car with my new wheels. However, after weighing my options, it was only going to be another $600-$700 to just upgrade to coilovers. Also, from what I had read, lowering with springs would wear out my shocks faster and therefore I would have to drop money on new shocks sooner plus another round of labor. Furthermore, the extra money is well worth it when it comes to the handling aspects as well. My car now drives like it is on rails with no body roll and zero understeer. It goes wherever you point the nose. I would highly suggest checking out the FK Konigsports. You can get them for right around 1k and the ride is comparable (maybe a tad bit more harsh) to the stock sport suspension, but when you get into the twisties the comparison goes out the window.

    Re: sport suspension installation

There is a DIY in the newbie forum on how to replace it.

With less than half of what you are going to pay for labor, you can by a whole set of tools to replace the suspension yourself.

I don't know... but im just saying.

right, but as other have said i don't think i would want to have to replace the stock shocks after the eibach springs wore them out in however many miles.

i would be buying it used, i don't see any sense in paying up for a new sport suspension from the dealer when coilovers can be had for not much more. looks like the smart thing to do is wait until i have enough money for them

    Re: sport suspension installation

Not sure I agree with buying the tools to save money on an install. That only works if you know how to do the work.

Also, I agree with either staying with the sport suspension or buying co's or a full suspension set rather than adding just springs. The spring only option seems like it is more of a temporary solution. And when the shocks go you'll have to pay to replace them. So you pay for two installations versus one (obviously one would be more costly). I have taken the low cost route and can say its worth it to wait until you have money to do it right. If I could do it all over again I would have waited for a group buy on co's and paid the extra money. Swapping OEM parts for OEM parts only gets you so far. Just my 2 cents...

    Re: sport suspension installation

You guys know anything about the Eibach Pro-Street Coilover kit? I want to drop my 08 S-line FWD about 1" all around.

The kit Im looking to buy is part# 1576.710, where on tire rack, the only kit listed is part# 1576.711. Im guessing this is just the newer model.

Anyhow, any have any info on that kit?

dealer charges at least 1 hour per strut. you should find an indy and see if they'll do it for less.
