A Professional system install should blend in and be more aesthetically pleasing IMO. I would at least try to match the carpet color, but hey if it doesn't bother you...

You're terrible at giving constructive criticism ...here read this maybe, it'll help you not be such a dick to people when they post up...watch me contribute to the audizine community better than you.

I like the trunk setup, but the mix of colors doesn't flow in my opinion. since its tough to match the oem carpet in the trunk, i say black out the entire trunk liner. You're subs would look like they are floating. And the black lining would match the rest of the cars interior. I assume you have a black interior, if so the carpet is black also. and you can black out the oem lining with dupicolors carpet and vinyl specific spray paints/dye. a buddy used the stuff on his jeeps cloth seats...and it came out great. with the spray paint/dye, you can control how dark it comes out, by doing multiple light coats. The carpet on the box looks like pretty dark, so you could just do a ton of coats..just a thought

So I'm a dick because I expressed my opinion, to which you basically agreed in your post? BTW, it doesn't sound like you have a lot experience in audio installations. Spray painting the stock lining? Not only would it be difficult to match the colors (black has many different hues), the texture of the two fabrics are quite different as well. Again, it's not the cleanest install I've seen, but if it doesn't bother him, who cares? Personally, I would never design a setup like this, but rather put a quality single sub and conceal it behind one of the side panels in the back of the trunk.

yeah i didnt really take your comments as disrespectful.. just straightforward (the way i usually post myself) but thank you audinoob for trying to keep it respectful.. to be honest, if i were going to show my car or do anything crazy with the trunk, i would color match.. but, there are a bunch of things i want to do before i even consider showing the car other than at meets (namely 19's, brakes, tint, and a new rear bumper.. possibly a cupra lip for the front)

"Sorry, but your sub install doesn't look too professional. " That makes you come off like a bag o dicks. since its a forum and you cant express any tone. people assume the tone you have is like you're on your pedestal talkin down his trunk setup, with a post like that. you should've explained yourself in 1 post. i gues you're trying to get your post count up.

actually i do have experience in car audio installations. Though i wouldn't choose this setup either for my car, The OP's install in already
in place, and i was giving him an idea on how to maybe enhance what he already has. and if you knew anything about spray dyes you'd know that it is extremely EASY to match. yes black has different hues, with the spray you can build up to the hue you want by just doing multiple coats. maybe i shouldn't have typed "PAINT", but just DYE. and the duplicolor stuff actually workes extremely well...i've seen many mk4 gti/jetta owners use the stuff for headliners. and i've used it on cloth seats. its tough and durable. and black is very easy to work with, its not like a red, or a blue or green.

i was thinking about going with two type r's in my car...how do you like them so far. do you have the factory interior speakers and stock HU??? if so how does it all sound together?

I think you're overreacting buddy. Forums are there to express your opinion and exchange ideas. Now, I did not say anything that would insult anyone, YOU DID. If I'd said your install sucks monkey balls, I'd be a dick, but I simply said that it doesn't look too professional and you insulted me by calling me a dick... how's that for forum politeness? I don't give a shit about my post count and I don't post that often anyway.

    Re: a little whoring

I agree w/ Audinoob that his tone could've been a little less confrontational, but I really think ibiski is right.

While Ti's choice of mounting might "look cool," it is not ideal for either sound quality or output. When doing it that way, the "enclosure" (normally characterized by a sealed MDF box sitting within the trunk) effectively becomes the area of airspace of the trunk itself. The amount of air is far too much to provide the proper compressions for the driver(s) of the woofer, and it results in mushy, muddy bass.

First rule of getting the best sound out of your woofers is enclosing them within the proper amount of air-space with respect to the design of the enclosure; every woofer is different, and also airspace varies based on the box and if it's sealed vs. ported vs. vented. Not to mention, the trunk of an Audi is not even close to air-tight, and I would imagine this system has a distinct lack of punch w/ respect to a bass or drum kick.

Check out my thread "A Rare AZ Mod....an Audio Project!", which will show you the RIGHT way to get a woofer installed to the stock system: (lil' teaser!)

yeah im running stock HU, stock speakers, new amp, new subs.. personally i think it sounds really nice.. i dont have them cranked all the way up, so the bass isnt sounding 'too mushy' like B7A4Sport said might happen

    Re: a little whoring

Yea, I was definitely going for the "might happen" tone, as I've seen setups like this that literally rocked my skull - I remember a '96 Impala SS (gay car imo, but system was killer) in the shop I go to that had 2 JL 13W7's mounted like this. They were being powered by 2 JL 1000/1 monoblocks, and MY GOD.........my eyeballs were literally vibrating in my head, and I couldn't see straight when I put leaned my head into the open passenger door.

His setup was MUCH more extravagent though, which included all kinds of plexi-glass amp housings and such, and the resulting airspace of the trunk was designed to be the proper amount for 2 woofers of that caliber. Those Type R's your working with aren't quite on the same level, but the size of the trunk isn't a terrible volume; I'd be more worried about the air-tightness. Maybe try experiment with sealing up the trunk w/ some dynamat and other reinforcements.

If you have an opportunity to do something more enclosed while maintaining the minimal space loss, while I'm sure your setup sounds "fine" as you say, you might be surprised at the improvement as well.

And like I said......looks pretty cool, hehe.

Don't know what driving BMW's has anything to do with the fact that you're insulting me, so the only reasonable explanation I can come up with is that you're probably one of those 16 year old New Jersey douchebags who likes to call everyone a dick: http://www.damnfunnypictures.com/htm...ouchebags.html
