    Air/fuel gauge hookup?

Which wires do I tap into for the autometer air/fuel gauge? I have a red, black and purple wire. If I remember right, it attaches to the downstream O2 sensor, but I don't have a manual to check for wire colors so if someone knows what they are that would be a big help. Its not a wideband gauge either.

you need to add a narrowband sensor to the exhaust

or sell that kit and buy a wide band kit that comes with a wide band 02 sensor. Narrow band air/fuel gauges are worthless since they just bounce around all the time and are really designed for a car that doesn't have a turbo on it.

So what does the car have on it now, narrow or wide? I don't really want to spend $300 right now on a wideband sensor and gauge if I already have the narrow band gauge. So...what are the wires I need to hook to?

    Re: Air/fuel gauge hookup?

There are no wires to hook it up to...

The B6 has a wideband O2 sensor in it, the autometer gauge you bought is a narrowband...in order to use it you are going to need to install a narrowband O2 sensor in your exhaust just like I said earlier.

You cannot remove the wideband that you currently have and replace it with a narrowband either as the ECM needs the wideband sensor.

Ah, much clearer. Thanks. So I just need a wideband gauge then?

That would be your best bet...if you really have the need to monitor your air/fuel on a regular basis.

AEM Uego or the Innovate LC-1 are great choices. Podi also sells a VEI gauge that works great with the LC-1

Cool. I'm probably gettin ahead of myself asking this but how easy is the install of the harness for this gauge. Anything special I need to do or look out for? Does it just piggy back on some wires?

    Re: Air/fuel gauge hookup?

With a wideband, your going to want to run it on its own 02 sensor. Look into what Greg mentioned, furthermore, an Innovate DB gauge and LC1 wideband is going to be the most for the least.

To back track, why are you needing an A/F guage? Do you just want to see the light dance around or are you making enough power that you actually need to monitor your A/F?

    Re: Air/fuel gauge hookup?

FYI, the front 02 sensor is what the car uses mainly to keep the A/F in check. You can not at all obscure its signal to the ECU and I definitely wouldnt splice into it for a wideband gauge, the ECU is doing all that you need to worry about (unless like I said your doing something excessive or making a good amount of power). The rear 02 sensor, checks cat efficiency, is a narrow band sensor and obviously can not be used with a wideband gauge. This doesnt mean connect your AEM gauge to it either, anything but a wideband is useless with boost!

^ exactly what i was thinking. Spend your money on something else. Did you ever figure out if the car you bought was actally "chipped" and actually "s4 Turbo" like thw owner said?

    Re: Air/fuel gauge hookup?

Well i'm working on a dual gauge pod and have the boost gauge ready to go. So until I get that hooked up I won't know if its chipped or not. I guess I'll just get a different gauge to go in the other spot. Any Suggestions? I also haven't had time to call the chipping companies on my VIN to see if it has been or not.

Take it to the drag strip and make a run, you will know just by what you get on the time slip if you are chipped or not.

The tuners do not keep VIN's of flashed cars. The specific shop that flashed it may have record of it but there are thousands of shops that flash the various different programs
