    SoCal Buyers Who Want '09s...

    Hey fellow SoCal people...

If you're tired of the BS with the dealers out here (wait list until MAYBE February and $5K over sticker), just order from a nearby state...I was able to call a dealer in Arizona and custom order an 09 that will be arriving in August at sticker price...

In fact, as a policy this dealer (there's only a few, you can guess which one...) aren't allowed to sell over sticker and are selling R8's at MSRP!

I'm not a dealer, just a frustrated SoCal resident looking for a reasonably priced A5! :) Oh, and only caveat, you have to put down a large non-refundable deposit on your 09 order...

A5 and S5 selling at MSRP or a bit lower is normal over here in my area. In fact, they have not sold any over MSRP. However, R8 is a different story.

Re: SoCal Buyers Who Want '09s...

I really like the A5... but at $45k for a $35k car is really too much for me, as much as I love the way it looks... Audi really messed up with the pricing on this one in my opinion. As someone who is looking for a new car, I think I might go with bmw on this one. A5.. is one sweet looking car tho.

Did you look into emissions? Can they order a CA car? Because if they can't you have to buy it used (at least 7,000 miles) before DMV will let you register it.

Re: SoCal Buyers Who Want '09s...

First off I want to say I agree with you guys, most dealers are full of b.s. Im not trying to start a battle that would result in me getting slayed! Im in sales at a dealer in Las Vegas and just wanted to give you our outlook on it. We won't mark up car over sticker. This whole market adjustment value (above sticker) crap is sorta generated by a.o.a. because there shipping so few a5/s5's over to us and old school mentallity dealers are trying to capitalize on that fact. Ive sold a couple a5/s5s and selling them at sticker is only a $2500.00/$3500.00 front end gross where as lexus has a 12% mark up in there cars so them discounting there car $2500 they still make more money than us with our car at sticker. Bmws have $6000 to $12k mark up in them. I sold a $115,000 s8 and theres only $5000.00 swing between invoice and msrp. I used to make that gross selling Toyota Avalons and Tundras. I will say as far as r8's we are getting one in a month and my G.M. dosen't want to be the typical dealer and mark it up, but then also from a business view the guys down the street are getting $45k over sticker for r8s. We are not going to mark it up but it still hurts when the other dealer is knocking people out of the park with there r8s. We have a a5 and a s5 that we are selling at sticker. As far as pricing I think pricing is right in line, s5 for $55/60k is a great buy.

order one from somewhere like Mississippi or Alabama or some Nascar state like that. They probably have A5s sitting on their lots because everyone drives a big dumbass pickup down there.

Or do it the right way and go European Delivery like me and get 5% off the MSRP without any haggling! ($3,000 savings - $800 plane ticket - $500 food - $400 hotels = $1,300 overall savings and a kickass trip for 5 days!) Woo-hoo!

Do you have to wait for allocation for that as well? I can't imagine if you book ED today and they'll send you there next month and you get your car a month after that.

The trip expense you listed above are very conservative IMHO. Our family goes out of country a lot and the last trip we took to France, the plan ticket is $2000 round trip in economy. Even plan tickets to Asia (China and Taiwan) are $1600. As for hotel, I believe ED only gave you 1 night of hotel, and $100/night after the 1st night sounds on the low end too.

Personally, if I go with ED and with the $3000 saving off MSRP, we'll be spending at least $6000 between my gf and I. I've never been to Germany and I don't planning on live in some motel and eat on the side of street. Restaurants, decent hotels and site-seeing all costs money. And then is the shopping budget for the lady.

Re: SoCal Buyers Who Want '09s...

I have to wait for allocation, yes. My car will not be ready until the end of the year but that was my intent. Once I pick it up over there it is another 6-8 weeks to get it in the states.

The costs for my trip are based directly on the actual costs of my trip to Europe (including Germany and the Audi Factory in Ingolstadt) last February. I traveled Europe for two weeks so I have a solid understanding of average costs. This trip to pick up the car will only be 5 days. Tickets in Nov-Dec are no more than $800 right now to Munich (Seattle or LA to Munich on Delta).

Keep in mind that winter is not peak European travel season and thus rates are far less. On an average of $100 night I was able to stay in three and four star hotels. I will not be shopping and site-seeing is only the cost of gas since I just recently did it all.

Didn't know the plan ticket is cheap around that time. Never really taken a vacation around that time of the year. Need to do ED for my next car for sure. This time I'll just do it the traditional way and should be getting my car around September.. Congrat with your car and trip!!!
