    Dipped headlights

So I finally put in the brand new Philips D1S bulbs I got from crowncitycorey (who got them Jens aka lowestA4) 2 days ago and were working fine untill last night. I drove last night to a friends house without any problems. When we leave his house, start the engine back up and get moving I notice that there's only light from one side. Sure enough about a min later the dipped headlight comes on display. We had to meet with someone so I drove without it. So we meet up with this guy to get some LED interior lights (freaking bright btw) get what we came for, start the engine back up, turn on the lights only to find that neither headlights are working now . Now display is showing both right and left dipped lights. Went home, driving with my high beabms, to try and see if somehow the bulb was the culprit although I thought very unlikely. Pop in the old, working, bulbs and nothing!

Now if it was a ballast issue, wouldn't the lights be flickering before failure? Is there anything else I should be looking at?

Either some wire got disconnected inadvertently or the mechanism to move the lights failed. Changing the lights shouldn't have caused this, so throw the original lights back in and take it in for the dealer to check out.

    Re: Dipped headlights

I have had this problem with the Left Headlight dipping. If I switch them off and on again the light comes back on. Sometimes I have to do it a few times. It really drives me nuts. Last time at the dealership I mentioned it to them and they said they are aware of the problem and have a memo from Audi but unless it causes a fault on the computer they will not fix it. I let it be but it seems to be happening more often.

I would suggest putting in the stock bulbs and going to the dealership.

Have they actually tested it or just told you that without testing it? If they didn't they should. I had one headlight replaced as they weren't able to make it move with their diagnostic tool while the other one horizontally and vertically.

    Re: Dipped headlights

They just told me they plugged it into the computer and there were no faults. I was not in the mood to argue so I left it for now.

Reading faults after plugging it in and actually doing the test are two different things. I *think* when they plugged in their diagnostics, no faults were thrown but there was something mechanically wrong with the headlight though it didn't throw a code.

    No Prob.

As stated above tho, I did try throwing in the original bulbs right after both stopped working and those still don't light up. My friend did mention he can see the auto levelers working. If it means anything, I also threw in my headlights into audipotential's car and only got the ambers to light up. His are halogen and I'm not sure if they needed to be VAG'd to get xenon working so I'm just taking that test with a grain of salt.
