    Mystery Problem..im stumped.

Seriously, ever since about 3 weeks ago problems have just been piling up. First with a fuel pump blowing, then once again (but finding it was an engine managemnt fuse) then AAA shoving a funnel in my gas tank and depressing the valve to vent fumes (basically, i cant fill my tank because the auto shut off keeps stopping the flow at the gas station). Anyways, this recent but reoccurring problem has been a mystery to me, and maybe someone knows what the deal is. Ever since that pump/fuse blew, i noticed that from a dig, if i floor it in first and shift to second quickly, the whole car shuts off. I try to start it and it turns over but doesnt crank. I replace the yellow 20 amp fuse right in the middle of the fuse box, and like magic the engine starts like a charm. Is there something im missing here? I just replaced the fuse a week ago, and it blows because of a high-rev shift from 1-2nd?? A month ago, this wasnt a problem as i would, though rarely, smash in first then to second from a dig (racing with a friend) and it wouldnt give me a single problem. Now a days shifting with some umph from 1-2nd from about 5500rpm will jump the car and shut everything off. WHY!?!?!?

Its my dream car and i had so many things planned for it, but so far, its been nothing but a prob. Luckily, my mechanic doesnt charge me labor, but still this is getting annoying. My car is in the shop more often than it is with me behind the wheel. I dont abuse it or anything, so whats the deal??

possibly a short somewhere that keeps blowing the fuse? I would vag it and look for any "short circuit to ground" codes. It could very well be something more serious though...

If it's blowing when you shift hard or even possibly from a bump you have a short somewhere.. every time you rattle the car hard that spot will touch metal and cause it to blow. Mine did this before but never blew fuses and one time it wouldn't start at all. Turned out to be the wire on the fuel pump inside the tank was coming loose.

    Re: Mystery Problem..im stumped.

Well you know what...though this might not be completely related to the problem, one of the master techs i was talking to (i work for bmw, bleh ) was saying that it could be that the fuel filter is clogged or old, therefore when shifting hard into 2nd, the engine is telling the pump to send more fuel but since the filter is hindering the delivery it needs, the amperage goes nuts and shorts the fuse. Wouldnt the fuse be discolored though if it was blown? It seems completely normal to me but it just wont start the engine anymore until ive replaced it with a new fuse. I havent had the time to check the filter either. Goddamn fulltime jobs. Especially when you're working with cars all damn day, the last thing you really wanna work on is your own.

    Thats one possible answer.

Two. ( A week before the second fuse blew)

I left my car with an old M.T. audi mechanic, traced the line, and nothing seemed to show up. VAG'd it and no error codes appeared. Replaced the fuse started like new.
I checked the fuse diagram figure out which fuse kept on blowing and, to my surpise its the ENGINE TIMING fuse. WtF. Though it might not be that bad in actuallity, just seeing the "Engine Timing" part scared the shit outta me.
Im the 3rd owner of the car, btw, and when i picked it up, he said he had changed the timing belt/water pump etc, when service was due.
No clue what to do here.

    Third.

Pinched wire or its hitting something like Xsilver said (which im pretty sure is only one part of my problems with this car.) But i just replaced the fuel pump with wiring n shit, sooo why would it be rattling loose already?

    4th.

Triple A screwed up my gas tank (fume vent to the carbon filter) by jamming a damn funnel into it, permanantly raising the valve so that when i try to fill my car at the pump, the auto shut off keeps turning on making it an impossibility to fill. (You can fill it, it just takes an hour to put 20 bucks in)
Someone stated that a a fucked up valve can damage the engine ??? some how.

    This is getting REAAAAAALLLY annoying.
