I got in to my first acident today Some small Toyoda ran a red light, I clipped it right in the back, riped the rear bumper and bumper bar right off and sent it flying and sent the car spinning off. As far ass my car, my front drive side took almost all the damage. Here are a few cell phone pix...

idk if they will total it, looking at the damage I don't thing so, but if the frame is twisted in any way they will prob. total it. The impacted didnt feel hard enough for the bags to deploy. the only part of me that touched the bag was my left arm b/c it was at the top of the wheel (12 o'clock) besides that the seatbelt saved me all the way! Part of me kinda hopes thats is totaled to I can go to a 6spd B6 or a 2.0t A3 with DSG, if not I'll bring her back to life and better then before.But we'll see...

looks totaled to me.... airbags, your front driver's side suspension is FUCKED (look at that wheel..), bumpers, crash bar, intercooler, headlight, washer fluid tank, etc etc etc.... lots of stuff crammed under our hoods - you take an impact like that and you potentially mess up a LOT of different things.. the full tear down by a body shop will be the deciding factor.

i work in a collision shop, and kinda have a general idea on what they look at when totalling a car... this is a close call.. if u wanna make sure, take a 2x4, put it narrow side next to the lowest A-pillar spot u can reach and give it a hammer once... only once though..

little dent will do the trick... and if u have AAA insurance, ure all set.. they are the easiest to deal with and they always pay the most..

since when does the airbag being deployed make a car totaled? It usually has more to do with structural damage to the passenger compartment. I.E. intrusion into the car, or a bent pillar. As well as engine damage or damage to the drive train.

i was sitting at a light a few weeks ago to make a left turn but it turned red. as i was sitting there stopped, an off duty cop plowed through the light and tboned the first car coming through. it took me about 15 minutes to get parked and get to the scene which already had two other cops there writing the lady who got tboned the ticket because the cop said SHE was the one who ran the light, luckily i was able to tell them what really happened, the off duty cop got pissed and came after me, they had to restrain him...

Sorry about you accident bro, I have first hand experience with this as my first A4 was hit and totaled back in August last year. Glad you're alright, I had some airbag burns as well. Your car may or may not be totaled, it comes down to its value (the car) minus the damage estimate. If the damage estimate is more than 65-75% the value of the car they will total it. My accident was significantly worse, guy ran a red light and i plowed into him at 55 mph. Here is a link to pics of my accident, my damage estimate came out to $16,500 to repair, it had frame damage, the car was valued at $17,200. yes, they are that expensive. when you take into consideration all that needs to be replaced. both airbag units, whole dash, and anything else that gets taken out in the process. which happens quite often.

when i was in a wreck just like this with my buddies GTI(02 1.8t), the estimate guy came to our house to look at it. first thing he looked at was the airbags. saw they were deployed and went, "yeah, it's totalled, sorry"..

Yeah, air bags are extremely expensive. When i got hit from the side in my Jetta my side air bags deployed, but did not cause them to total it. It ended up being totalled but was do to mostly body damage. My car was hit pretty bad. I agree with everyone else, I wouldn't settle for anything less than totalled. The car will never run the same.

Well I just got back from the shop, I went to sign some paper work so they can start tearing it down to do their estimate. Their pre-estimate, just after looking it over, came to $11,000. so its not looking too good, but we'll see what the real estimate comes out to.
