    Best option for tails?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone, I looked up a ton of threads involving tails but didn't really find and answer to my question. I (like a moron) backed into my garage door handle last night and cracked my driver's side tail light. It only appears to be the outer casing, but I want to fix/replace it ASAP. I was looking at LED tails but don't have the soldering ability to put resistors on them so I don't get any warnings.

So, the question is, can you buy LED tails with resistors pre-installed? Second question is, is there a good place other than the dealer to get an OEM tail and about how much will it run me? Thanks for any responses.

LED tails, and as for the soldering, i've never done it before in my life, but when i got my set i tried and i did it all and it turned out fine just melt the solder on the wire with the solder gun thingy and it kools in like 3 seconds and is rock hard, very simple!

I'm also interested in LED tails and have seen quite a few but no idea of manufacturer. Most people when they list their mods simply state "LED tails." I am looking for a true Euro look and not a cheesy JDM altezza-style light. Names please.

Re-upping my question of where the best place to get OEM tails from (besides the dealership) since there doesn't seem to be LED tails with pre-built in resistors.

I personally like the top set.

And why do you have to put a resistor in?

    Re: Best option for tails?

The top set looks alright, but kind of ricerish IMO. I'd prefer a more common look to my tails. Anyways, without the resistors you supposedly get a "bulb out" warning message.

    Re: Best option for tails?

I think that the stock tails are just fine, I may do the "stealth bulb" mod but that is about it. I do like the look of the LED tails, but I have heard mixed things about how the fit and the overall quality of them so I doubt I will take my chances.

    Re: Best option for tails?

I have the top set - they look pretty good once they are mounted on the car. It has built in resistors, I have no bulb warnings at all.

Only downside is that the led's are also the running lights, but are dimmed using a pulse circuit that could use some work (you can see some flickering). When you step on the brake, they come on at full brightness completely solid.

Not a real good one, I'm not quite the pro at photography yet.

It takes some getting used to because there is a little more silver in the middle stripe than stock (I would prefer a little more red), but the darker color is much nicer overall. I've decided to keep them.

    Re: Best option for tails?

You need the resistors for the LED's to work. Each color LED requires a different resistor value. Go to www.oznium.com, you can buy the LED's and resistors to match or just to use as a reference. They have all kinds of stuff there.
