    3-Piece wheels:

I just talked with Guy at HRE and he said too clear coat the wheels it would cost $200-300/wheel. He said it needs to be baked at a specific temperature otherwise it will lose it strength, which makes sense and no arguments there. He also mentioned that other wheel refinishing places don't pay attention to that as much so the clear coat might go on but you'll have a bum set of wheels just ready to bent.

I guess $300 to refinish the wheels is not expensive if you are the original buyer and paid over a $1,000 per wheel but to buy these things used doesn't make any sense anymore....anyone else have any thoughts about this?

I just had my wheels machined, repainted and clear coated for $500 all together.

    Re: 3-Piece wheels:

Yeah, $500 vs...$800-1200. He said to be careful and make sure the wheel is not baked too high during the refinishing process. He was saying the high heat could compromise the structural integrity/strength of the alloy.

Makes sense your not paying $1000+/wheel for some cheap low strength alloy. To save $300-700 in the finishing process but to have a set of fancy bunk wheels seems wrong.

Just doesn't seem to make sense...unless the wheels are dirt cheap to refinish them....or am I wrong?

You are locally in SoCal. Call either Specialized in HB or Olympic in Santa Ana. Of course HRE is going to give you an outrageous quote because they are the middle man go straight to the source. http://www.specializedcoating.com/ http://www.olympicpowdercoating.com/...ing/index.html
