Can't get radio stations on aftermarket stereo

I put in an aftermarket head unit.

Nothing crazy, just some Sony head unit.

Well I got the adapter for the radio antenna and it's all plugged in but I can't get any radio stations in as if I don't have an antenna.

Anyone have any clues?

Normally I don't care much my iPod is almost always on but I'm taking a 1200 mile road trip and sometimes its good to get traffic and weather updates on local stations going through cities.

because what they forgot to tell u about audi radio reception is that it fucken SUCKS!
i got the same problem with my avic, bad bad reception

With the stock head unit the radio was fine.

Now with the aftermarket its like the antenna isn't hooked up at all.

The adapter I got was just a thing so it would fit in, does the antenna need to get power somehow?

when i put in my pioneer i used a powered antenna adapter. that is likely your problem.

^i used same antenna for my avic-d3..shit reception...i just play my ipod all the time.

I had no reception until I added that ant. adapter

its because the antenna boosters go bad in our cars and actually crack and break.

my reception is horrible bc i havnt replaced the part. going with an aftermartket antenna will help out.

powered antenna adapter is your problem, i dealt with this for a long time until i finally figured it out. BTW ive got an avic-d1...
