    Tip Shifter Removal (searched)

Alright, i feel like a moron but i cannot get my shifter removed. I already know about this thread but mine seems different. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...remove+shifter

When it says to turn the circular part "anti-clockwise" I cannot do that, it only turns clockwise and then it can go down into this position.

Do I need to push it down further or what? Ive tried pulling the shifter up and off and i cannot seem to get it to work....

wow, this thing is a bitch to get out.... I cannot get it for the life of me. Ive tried pulling on it from every angle and I cant seem to get it at all. Maybe lll try a little bit longer and then just give up on going for the brushed aluminum look....

    Re: Tip Shifter Removal (searched)

I just did the SPP tipmod thing two weeks ago. It wasn't too hard to pull the OEM shifter straight off. Just make sure you are also pulling the push button out at the same time. You may have to try to twist it back and forth to loosen it. The warmer weather should make it a little easier.

I replaced mine with the Momo 'Sphere' as at the link below. Yeah, some think replacing an auto shifter with a standard type is cheesy, but I think it's a nice touch.

Good luck, and as everyone says, don't knock yourself out in the process.

Pull up on the knob. The SPP tip mod converts the horizontal 'push' button to a vertical 'pull' action.

    Re: Tip Shifter Removal (searched)

dude, when I did my Spp tip mod, getting the old one off was a bitch. did you make sure to kinda pull the button on the side out a bit and then pull up real hard. it will scare the crap out of you when you get it off and you will think you broke something but you didn't. that button will end up going all the way into the knob but you can always get it out later if you want. good luck, persistance is the key

    Re: Tip Shifter Removal (searched)

whew! I got it!!!! And for all of those people out there that think its funny when people say watch you face, Im going to say it one more time because I smacked my head on the roof and almost got myself in the face as well lol. Watch you face! Anyways, I was thinking of painting the shifter black... I cannot remember who it was, but i know somebody has done it on here and it looked sweet. Its either that or just go for the brushed look, which i think will also look really nice.

Then, the next thing to think about would be what to paint it with... Should I just sand it, prime it, paint it, then clear it or what? Hopefully somebody with some paint knowledge can chime in here because although i have had a fair share of painting experience, im by no means an expert.

well, i cannot take credit for the mod, i saw it done somewhere else around here and I always thought it looked sweet. But yeah, it definitely looks better than the scratches on it before.

This might be a tip or not, I couldn't get the step #1 collar to come down far enough using my hands. I turned it counterclockwise, It moved down a little bit enough to fit a flat tip crewdriver between the collar and the top knob and just leveraged enough pressure downward on the collar it dropped to the proper release position then using the ziptie/tape between the shift button to keep it open. I then pulled up on the knob and it did come out with some force almost hitting myself in the face but didn't thankfully.
    hope this helps
