    I'm about to give up!...

Okay, so about 2 weeks ago I Seafoamed my A4. As such, last night I changed the plugs. I used Denso Iridiums, gaped them to 44 like is recommended, and put them in. Drove to work this morning, everything is golden. Leave for lunch, and all of a sudden the engine starts stuttering, the CEL flashes, and my power drops out. Then it smoothes out. I changes gears, does it again. Did I blow a coil pack? Or does it sound like maybe I didn't seat one of the spark plugs right? I need help, cause it's a 30 minute drive home, and I want to be sure I can make it!

Sounds like a coil pack. Just blew my first one about a week ago and Im an 2002 also. Glad I had a spare in my trunk. But I went ahead and got some E's of ECS and replaced all of them.

Damn, I was gonna install my test pipe and get my exhaust done between this weekend and next week, now something else happens. Guess I'll call the Audi dealer and see if they have any in stock... Can't really wait to get them shipped in, this is my dd.

Make friends with your Dealership Parts Counter. I drop by Champion at least once a week to say Hi. They sell me "R" coilpacks for 28.00. Just bought replacement stock wiper blades for 9 bucks a side . Honey goes a long way!!!

Well, I just made a new friend. Stopped by and pick up 4 new coil packs, R revision. $38 a piece, which isn't TOO bad. Gonna install them as soon as the engine cools a little bit.

Re: I'm about to give up!...

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be picking up a couple of spares, so I'll definitely check that out.

One more question. So I got the new spark plugs re-gapped, new coil packs in, and put in a test pipe (must cheaper than replacing my blown cat). I pulled the negative battery terminal off to reset the CEL, but now my ESP light is on. How do I get rid of this?

Re: I'm about to give up!...

Mine did that too when I change the battery. It went away after driving for a couple minutes.

Don't forget to get reflashed after you install the test pipe. You'll get a cel shortly after you start driving.

Re: I'm about to give up!...

I don't have a chip or a flash, but I did do the spark plug fouler mod. I wouldn't have done the downpipe if it hadn't been for the cat going bad. But it was the (much) cheaper way to go. I drove the car to work this morning. Idled a little funny this morning, but I figure it's just the ECM relearning again, as I changed my batter yesterday (had an Optima yellow top sitting around from my old show car). No CEL or anything...yet. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

And special thanks to Old Guy for a lot of help on this.

SlappyB6 said: "gaped them to 44 like is recommended".

So, you gapped the plugs for a 1.8T to .044"? That is not the correct gap for the 1.8T. That gap is for the 3.0L. .044" = 1.1mm The 1.8T stock plug gap is .032". For chipped, .028" is recommended.

Re: I'm about to give up!...

^^I was about to mention the same thing. For the 1.8T, the spark plugs are gapped too wide. I can tell he has the 1.8T since he mentions a 5spd in his sig (the 3.0 only has a 6spd for a manual).

.032" for stock setup. .030" for mild tuning. .028" for BT setup.

Re: I'm about to give up!...

Yeah, I already re-gapped the plugs to around 32 on each one, everything seems to be okay now. Now I just need to get rid of this stupid CEL from my test pipe. And yeah, I have a vag-com, too.
