So I was going to pull out the ECU to get it chipped. I had always guessed that the car was chipped since the boost seems to be around 18psi give or take.
The car itself never really seemed "that" fast.. although I admit I have never really driven in another B5, only a newer turbo beetle (stock) And it seemed the same speed.
I took out the ECU and noticed fingerprints, so I took it apart. Low and behold there is what looks to be an ECMS from APR.
So I have a 98.5 B5 and I go to call up APR.
They weren't so helpful at APR in terms of figuring out how to activate it, or even if I had to or not. Their response was ship it, pay $100 or 150 I didn't catch it.. to register it and transfer the name... and then they'd tell me what is on it. Of course they warned me and talked to me as if my car would blow up with severe engine damage.. I've had the car already for 2 years! Oh well.
So I went to the car and tried to hold the cruise control "set" on the stalk and no ce light blinking.
Now I'm hoping that there is no switchable function and the ECU is indeed chipped as is. Is there any way to verify any of this at all?
Thanks so much for any input!
