chipped or flashed?

I've seen the post for this before but now can't find it. How do I know if the car is chipped/flashed? The guy I bought it off of said it was, but if it is, how do I know what company its from or what program is in it?

A boost gauge is the best way to find out if your car has aftermarket software. If you can hold around 15-17 psi, your car has software.

As for finding out which company created it, that is a bit more difficult. I think the only way would be to visit a shop that sells "X" brand of software and have them hook up to your car to see if their application can read it.

If you opened up the ECU, wouldn't it tell you there too??

^ no. When your flashed it doesnt mean a green light lights up on the outside of the ECU, saying IM CHIPPED haha. Go to a apr/giac dealer and they can hook you up and tell you.

Can't you just call the previous owner and ask? Everyone here is assuming it is a quality chip and it could be an ebay job.

Yea, I talk to the dude all the time but he didn't do the work nor does he remember who did. I'm trying to get him to get me all the paperwork for all the stuff he did so I know what I need to get for replacement parts. He shelled out a large sum of money to have some place do all this work. I have a boost gauge at home that I will be integrating along with a air/fuel meter. I making a little fiberglass project, and will have pics as soon as its complete.

I was able to confirm I wasn't chipped by using VAG-COM and reading the boost levels on channel 115 while driving.

The formula I used was (mbar - 1000)/1000*14.5 == psi ; with that you should get 8-9psi if you aren't chipped.

sounds like you got screwed over when you bought your car...b/c it says supposedly s4 turbo? Is that what they told you? Take off those hideous headlight covers.

by the looks of that car, i would say its an ebay chip

is it a s4 turbo off an 04 s4? ill bet thats what it is! God please spare us looking at those headlight covers!!!!!!!!! ugh!

Cut a brotha a break man...lol I've only had the car 2 weeks, the only thing i've had time for is cleaning it once in a while. The headlight covers will come off in time, don't worry, and I'll get a better pic of the car soon enough.
