Front license plate mounts - Lets see them

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a brand new front bumper cover on my A4, and the holes are drilled for the German plates, so I never drilled my bumper or attempted to find a bracket or mount my front plate.

After getting pulled over an hour ago and getting another ticket, I want to see how everyone mounts their front plate without ruining how the front looks...

One part screws into your towhook and the main plate bolts onto it.

I have mine on my dash as well...
cops dont like it, but they know its not worth their time to ticket it, as I would win in court... as the plate needs to be visible from the front!

I think they look down upon that more than having no license plate at all. They consider having a sharp piece of aluminum sitting on your dash a driving hazard.

They should offer a euro style plate an option at an extra cost that you could use for the front of your car. DMVs would make some money from that for sure. Say you charge 150 bucks for it. This whole board would probably get one lol.

I retro fitted my old plate and converted it into a euro style plate... (cut the top and bottom, and extended the length on a plate and matched the reflecting matterial)... it looked realy nice... however... I got charged (thats right charged) for altering a license plate...
the judge laughed at the charge and dismissed it, but they wouldnt give it back to me as it "eveidence"...

I did not know that. If Nevada gave a shit about front plates and they offered it, I would get one. Fortunately the po-po here don't care about stuff like that....yet.

I'd rather run the plate front and center. That looks absolutely awful. Cool idea and neat how you implemented it (with the lack of drilling holes), but the final result is out of balance and doesn't fit the car at all.

He has a great looking ride...I just think the front license plate placement throws off the balance of an otherwise fantastic looking car. I lived in 'front license plate required' state for 10 years and never got a ticket for not running one. I'd either not run one at all or at least center it so the car stays nice and symmetrical. Just my opinion.

I do some where, but cant find them on my hard drive...
I'll search my computer at home...

basicly what I did is cut off 1" and a bit of the top and bottom... lay the plate on a thin hard surface (I tried to use plexy glass, but it was too hard to cut stright, so) I used road sign materials to extend the lengths, and then matched the refelcting white plate protion with sticker (exact match) to make it flow nice...
only issue, is that you gonna have to keep it sealed, if water goes in there then the sticker part is gonna bubble. and up close you can notice where the plate ends and sticker begins... but it was realy hard to notice unless you are one of us I guess... lol

I finally just said "screw it" and took my plate off. If I get a ticket for it, I get a ticket for it, it's just a chance I have to take.

However, when I did run my plate, I just moved it down a notch so it was only held on by two screws instead of all four. It was closer the ground this way instead of covering up a bunch of the bumper.

Neither of those are legal options and you will get a ticket for it. It needs to be mounted in a visible place on the FRONT of the vehicle (behind the windsheild doesn't count).

You're probably MORE likely to get a ticket for it if you put it behind your windsheild because it draws more attention to the fact you don't have it in the proper place.

Besides, having it on the dashboard looks worse than having it on the front of the car.

^^x2 very true Capt. i don't want one in my windshield, but the thing is i don't want holes in my bumper after i send it to the body shop! and well skid plate sounds good, but isn't centered, and since i'm getting LED fogs, it'd block the LED's!

Another option (which I will be doing when I put my S4 front bumper on), is to do what Avanteix (sp?) did, and epoxy some strong magnets behind the bumper and onto the front plate bracket. That way you can roll around with no plate on, but stick on the front quickly when you know you're going somewhere that the cops are picky about front plates.

The Skidplate is made for those people that have a need to remove their plate for car shows, photoshoots, etc.

I have a permanent plate mount for my S4 plate delete but it is a PITA to take on and off.

I'd do the magnet thing too but I'm so OCD that if any grit scratched the clearcoat I'd go mental. I rather put the Skidplate on and take the 5 minutes to remove it when needed than chance scuffing my front bumper.
