    Vag Com will not work?...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Okay, so I finally got my cheap-o vag com cord from Ebay, along with the "software" disc. I installed the software, hooked it up to the car, and nadda. It absolutely will not detect the interface. I tried version 311.2 and the newest version 805. Neither one will find the interface. Is this not compatible with Vista (and yes, I detest Vista!). Help, anyone?!

Re: Vag Com will not work?...

    Taken from the Ross-Tech website...

"Since 3rd party interfaces only work with older versions of VAG-COM, we do not support the use of them with Vista even if you have previously registered the software."

Excellent, so unless I spend $300+ for the actual Ross-Tech interface, I'm screwed. Fucking Microsoft...

As someone who went to school for IT, I'm always willing to dish out a Microsoft bash. Damn bullshit trojan program Windows!

I guess I'll just have to use my g/f's computer with XP...

If you run XP in a virtual machine, maybe it'll work. I'm just not sure for the USB connections in a VM. Check Microsoft Virtual PC, it seems free: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow...c/default.mspx

Does the test work? Because my Ross tech cable works only when I unplug the fuse for the radio first ( fuse #39 I think...) and pop it back in. The cd changer will start clunking and then I can Vag my car. If I don't it always says "not plugged into car". Give it a try!

I finally got it to find the interface, but every time I try to do anything with the program, I get the wonderful Windows error that the program stopped working. That's with version 311.2. 805 won't even find the interface.

Damn, just asked a tech guy here and he says VirtualPC 2007 won't let you access a USB device. However, it seems VMWare can do that for you, but they aren't free if I remember.

^^^Go figure! I'll just use my g/f's computer for the weekend. Then I guess if I need to do anything else, I can always take my PC tower out there, and just hook the display up through my laptop, and use it like that. Damn, this sucks!

    There is a 'cheap' version??
I just saw a couple on E-bay, these actually work?
    Do they come with software?

I have windows XP so that would not be a problem.

Re: Vag Com will not work?...

From what I've read, a lot of people on here have the cheap ones from Ebay. The real expense comes when you purchase the software license from Ross-tech.

Re: Vag Com will not work?...

I got mine to work on Vista with the ebay cable.

All I had to do was right click the Vag-Com .exe file and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR

Then the errors stopped happening for me.

    Good luck.

btw...I am running 409.1, I think you need that version for the ebay cables. Not sure though.

Any input from the Vag-com and Audi gurus?
edit: I think most of these are from before I changed everything out. How do I tell what's making the check engine light come on now?

I did, and thanks for the help. I know most of the codes are from when all my coil packs went. The cat was going bad, too, so that's the first code. Then cylinders 1, 2 and 4 misfired, and there was one or 2 more, don't remember them all right now. And I think the last one is from having the battery off when I put my Optima in.

Are you sure that the cat is going bad?? I thought that as well on my 3.0... when I replaced a coil that was misfiring, the cat code went away for me!

Yeah, cause I actually replaced the cat already, and the honeycomb inside was rattling all over the place. I'm just not sure why the CEL is back on now...

If it's in any way close to debugging software, fix the first bug first and check again after
Seriously, I'd say clear them and see what comes back now that your coilpacks are changed. Your shareware version only shows you the first message completely so you may see better then.

It won't let me clear anything. When I click to clear, it tells me something about the interface I'm using doesn't allow it, and that I need to register my software. Maybe I just need to try again.
