2001 or 2001 1/2 whats the diff. and how can i find out?

i have a 2001 nogaro and i want to find out if its a 2001 or a 2001.5 and whats the diff. is it on the vin # or somewhere else. also how can i find my radio code if its not on the radio card ?

Model Year Changes-

About half of the later 2001 model year S4s made many significant changes. These are the 2001.5 S4s referred to on AW. Among the differences were the following: larger oil inlet lines to the turbo to increase lubrication (made turbos more reliable); badges on front and rear were changed, and others. The first 2001 models received the following over 2000s: a longer warranty (4yr/50k instead of 3yr/50k), sport packages got chrome mirrors, got ESP (traction control), got different tires, avant became available, and others. Clearly, the ones you want are the 2001.5 or 2002s, but that's not to say you can't do well with a 2000.

Check out the other info too, it will help a lot. Plus there is also a sticky regarding our Sound systems. I dont remember for sure if that has info regarding your question, but check it out and hopefully it does.


Another thing is to try use the Search feature, it helps tons as well.

But sometimes it does get annoying when there are tons of threads that dont directly answer our questions. But still good to try and use it.

Well it would also help if I read your post correctly lol. to more directly answer your question The easiest way is if you have ESP then also look at the S4 emblems like the guy below me said.
the 01.5 have the newer style emblem that is : S4 with red emblem partly covering the S. This badge would be used in steering wheel, speedo, hood, and trunk. From what I've read some may have both the old and new badges during the middle part of 2001.
The other thing too is some people replaced their old badges with the new one so that oculd be decieving as well.

what does the badge on ur steering wheel and cluster look like, the recent S4 badging or the 3-stripe kind? If it's the 3-stripe its an early 01, otherwise its 01.5

i have the later badges or newer one with the one thick red stripe but i thought maybe there was something else that set them apart besides badges. there is so many hidden secrets and tricks to this cars that im finding out slowly. thanx for your info and help beers to you all.

this is easy. if its early the vin number background will be in black. The tach badge will tell you whether its early or late S4. Don't rely on the badge on the back as many change them cause it looks much cleaner. Hitachi or Bosch MAF is another way. This should help

just an fyi my car is such a mutant haha i have 01.5 badges on the exterior of my car but my cluster is 2000 badges. i have ESP. i have the old style y pipe and i think an f hose i forget lol. uhhhh im going to check the build date because im confused...

Yes, 2001 B5 S4 Avants are really 2001.5'ers
