Shop Cost: Having someone install a suspension for you

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Basically, I'm looking at three basic long term "mods."

    1. New suspension.
    2. New rims/tires.
    3. Stage one chip/flash.

    Pretty much in that order.

Figuring a budget of 1,000 for the suspension alone I was looking into how much it would run me to get it installed. I have a friend of a friend who has a VW/Audi shop. I asked about how much it would cost to have a suspension put on. My friend, said his friend, said, he thinks, 250 per corner. So that'd be 1k total.

Does this sound accurate? My friend said he might have the figure wrong, but he was pretty sure that's what his friend quoted him/said.

This means I'd roughly need 2K to both buy, and have a suspension installed. For that much I can almost do the tires and the chip.

I wanted to run this by some of you all to see what sort of prices I can reasonably expect. I figured you all would know more than anyone else I could talk to.

I don't have the knowledge, patience, or equipment to put a suspension on myself. Otherwise I would.

    Thanks.

Sorry, I really just meant installing the suspension. I can put on wheels.

What's "its obd-2" mean? I'd use search to find out but...well...it's not available at the moment.

He means, all they have to do is hook a laptop (OBD-II Cable) up to your car and hit a few buttons for the chip install.

Doh! Should have known better. Not sure of any shops around Atlanta that can do that. Then again, I haven't really been looking. I'd assume in a city this big there are plenty.

I got quoted 350. to install my Bilstein shocks and H&R sport springs w/ H&R rear sway. When I got my car back the front end was shaking and clunking. come to find out they put 3.0
springs in the front of my 1.8T. Got all my labor back w/ the help of the local Police Dept.

I just got quoted $315. Apparantly if I bought the parts at the shop that's doing the install they would have done it for less.

Re: Shop Cost: Having someone install a suspension for you

if you are in atlanta, give mikey palmer a call (not his dad barry). tell him sam (me) sent you. they are a fricken great shop and have fixed every issue on my (vw's,audi/bmw).

definitely not purty but mike is cool. We tune his 250whp 85 GTI g60.

770-425-2549 open around 1030'ish. Usually his dad does the talking on the phone and pricing but i usually talk to mike to get scope first.

prices have been going up it used to be shop hours $60. But a few things well i've been billed for 8-10 hours in a day that was 6 hours (drop-off to pickup) but i agreed to it. since he does such a good job.

    Should be. Shop around.

Tires and wheels, like some1 said you can buy them mounted and balanced and DIY, then pay 100 bucks for a 4-wheel alignment. After your car is lowered that is.

Also as said above, the chip is done with a laptop so its the cost of the chip. My Revo stage 1 was $499 I believe, and Stage 2 Flash was free.

What he said. You should be looking at hourly labor charges. Not a flat rate for an install, thats bogus............

Just called my shop that I use, an hour labor per corner ($74/hour) so $296.

If I am a ACNA member, labor drops to $50/hour. One year membership is $44...so if I wasn't a member, $296 but if member, $200 + $44 to join still is $52 less. Might join for the savings...

Okay, okay, just got clarification. My buddy was wrong with what he told me. We asked his friend again today and he said probably 250-300 bucks, period. And it's a labor estimate, so it could be less if they go on quick.

At any rate, there has been some BIG help on this thread and I really appreciate everyone clearing some of this stuff up for me.

or u can go to ur local forums and see if someone is asking for cheap labor wh's done it before on ur type of car and have him do it, or make friends buy everyone some beers and some Pizza and have them help u install it, not only will u be proud of what u guys did, but u'll also enjoy it and learn something! isn't all that difficult, there are DIY's!

two places to get alignment for audi in atlanta:
    1. Dealer
    2. Gran Turismo East (they do all the panoz racing team cars). Also hunter road force only balancing and no impact guns on lugs :) also service the panoz audi's that do the road training for young drivers

i trust #2 option over #1 option all day long.
