Anyone added night vision?

The grand-pubah (FLIR) was detailed in episode 50 of Systm, but that product goes for about $4k [O_O][O_O] I was thinking that something like what's sold here would work too, if properly wired into a display device...such as an RNS-E with in-motion video & aux inputs. A "dude, completely wrong technology" response is acceptable.

I think he's wanting to add some sort of night vision to his car so he can see better while driving at night, but I don't think it would be much help. Maybe a little info as to what you're looking to do?

ah, sorry. FLIR = Forward Looking InfraRed. you know how Cadillac offers a night vision system to show you an infrared image of the road ahead? Here's an article on it. Raymax, you're right on the idea. High beams only go so far, and I drive on enough roads with no other illumination lined with trees that this, if feasable, would be a great aid. And, as I'm sure other members have found out, deer suck.

I think the Bi-xenon lamps illuminate enough a dark road to drive fine at night. Plus, if you had night vision wired into the RNS-E you'd be taking your eyes off the road...which I think is way more dangerous than not being able to see as far as during the day.

I think it would be a decent idea if you could project it up in front of you (like a H.U.D) but like Wxguy said, I think looking at the nav screen would be alot more dangerous than just using your high beams, and slowing down.

Cheapest thing would be to get deer whistles... they're less than 10 bucks i think and can only be heard by animals... just shove them in your grill

do what the guy who went from Ny to LA in 30 hrs did...get one of the nightvisions off a hummer h1 hard wire it to benoculers or some kind of device to see ahead of you and then to a mini screen also add a button to turn off all brake likes so cops wont see u if thats why your doing it

I don't imagine companies that produced FLIR infrared cameras for the aftermarket and for OEMs such as Mercedes-Benz would remain in business if you could strap a $200 IR camera to your grill and call it a day. I have a feeling the IR LEDs on those cameras are vastly underpowered for a automotive application. If you watch the video about the MB's "Night View Assist," you'll see that the car incorporates a high-powered IR beam in each one of the headlights.

Hmm... stealth mode for the a4.... probly good for some sort of criminal activity, drug running or something... cruising the country roads late at night, high speeds, running with no lights on except infrared... i think ur on to somethin!!
