Sold my RSX bought an Audi. Coilovers?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
What's guys. I just sold my RSX type S and bought a B7 Audi A4 2.0T just this week. I had put a lot of time and money into my rsx and I plan to do the same with this car.
Heres my problem. On Clubrsx they ranted and raved about the TEIN SS-p about how smooth it was and what not. Well I bought those coilovers and I was not 100% satisfied, the ride was not that great. Handling was awsome, but im not always driving on onramps or going 60mph through the back roads. And I put the coilovers on the smoothest setting and I still would hit a bump and get thrown out of my seat.
My question to you guys is what coilovers would ride the smoothest, i dont drop my cars to the ground i just like a nice clean drop. I'm reading a lot of people have the Koni coilovers but havent seen to many reviews. Also it may have just been because it was an acura and the Teins on the Audi would be better, I dont know.

Re: Sold my RSX bought an Audi. Coilovers?

Welcome to AZ. I just got my A4 six weeks ago and did quite a bit of research before buying coils. From what I've read, Teins are a cheaper option but not the best. I settled on Vogtlands and they provide a very smooth ride on the street while being very capable when tossed around. Do a search and see what works for you. I have a few posts on my impressions of the Vogts. Other good options include Bilstein PSS9s and Stasis. Search is your friend.

I've read that the Teins SS are nice on the A4 but since you're in Livermore, why not stop by Stasis Engineering in Sonoma and see what they can do for you. They offer Streetsport, Tracksport and Motorsport coilovers.

Re: Sold my RSX bought an Audi. Coilovers?

Hey wussup fellow rsx'er. I use to have type s myself and was using mugen ss which was suppose to be the most comfortable lowering spring and shock combo for an rsx. I still found it really harsh compared to the b6 car I rode on with fk coilovers. It was slammed and still was pretty comfy. As far as the b7 goes I havent rode on any coilovers yet. Just my stock sport suspension that lowers the car more than the mugen ss did to my rsx. I love my sport suspension but would like to go lower. But for now its nice and comfy.

I just ordered STaSIS Street Sports. I've heard nothing but good things about them. I'll write a review once I have them installed in a couple of weeks.

imo TEINS should stay on japanese imports. i used to be in the honda scene and apparently TEINS were not my favorite. i perfer JICs or Apexi N1s.

but yea... back to your post, you should look into KWs or Bilstein and the infamous Stasis. Good luck.

I am getting the basic STaSIS setup put on my car right now, and I drove the same setup I am getting put on. It was a great ride but also held nice in the corners, similar to factory ride quality but lower and great performance. Once I get them put on I will give you an update with pics.

Teins SS/SS-P/Basic are crap for the money you pay (There are many spring/shock combinations that can give you a better ride quality and improved handling performance over their crap). They were the first set of coilovers my friends and I used on our various Japanese/European cars and I got rid of them shortly after how realizing how crappy they are. Tein is popular, why? Marketing and market saturation. Their policies on tuning are for their lower end products: lower the car some, give height adjustability, increase the OEM spring rate slightly and proportional to previous spring rates, dampening- set it on something somewhat soft but gives a more firm feel in ride quality, done. This is retarded, anyone can do this and make "coilovers", and technically they handle a "bit better" because they upped the spring rate by following factory tuning principles...not very creative and R&D time is probably about 15 minutes. Now if you moved into the upper echelon of their products- they get significantly more TLC in their tuning- but that's not the topic of this thread.

Out of the various coilovers that I've experienced myself on a B7 I will honestly say that KW V3s and Stasis Motorsports are my favorites. For having a wide range of flexibility (KW) and superior steering response (Stasis) to all others.

You can not compare those Teins with a Stasis Motorsport setup. Completely not fair and makes no sense. I had Tein Gymkana's on a 96 EK hatchback and that car took MANY 1-3places at autocrosses and road race events. OK, so my driving wasn't half bad either:) Anyhow, I now enjoy VOGTLAND coilovers on my A4 for a REALLY comfortable ride and great handling.
All I wanted from a coilover system for the Audi was to almost eliminate the nose from diving under braking and the rear from squating under hard load/acceleration. Combined with a comfortable ride, high adjustability, and safer performance, the Vogtland Coils are a great package. I can see the base Tein Coilovers offering the same or similiar performance depending on the spring rates and shock valving.

If your looking for a track/weekend warrior suspension system or just want the cats meow for no reason at all other then complete overkill, then the Stasis Moto's and anything else in its catagory is your finest bet.

If your looking for MUCH better handling, comfortable ride, and all for a reasonable price, then there is LOTS to choose from.
Currently in the market for an Avant or Allroad.
