APR chip....5 questions...Help [EDIT:check first post]

Ok some background I'm still waiting for my Quad tip Creative Exhaust from A4ber said he was shipping today which prob will be here next week. But i also found an APR dealer about 40miles from where i live and have the dough for APR 93 (stock plus 1 or 2 programs) and fault code but i have no performance mods done to my car yet.

So all you APR people i have a stock 2.0 tip and want to get the APR 93 stock with 2 programs (total of 3)

1.)Will i see ANY gains w/o any Perf. mods?

2.)Should i wait till i get my exhaust or just go for it?

3.)How happy are you with APR?

4.) Should i get the security lockout?

5.) Those with APR 93 what mods do you have done?

6.) (Added on) What will i love & what will i hate?

7.) (Added on) Has you BV blown or did u upgrade?

8.) (Added on) What is stock + 1 program? Stage 1?

APR chip is the way to go! No other mods needed to feel the BIG difference.

I have just the 93 program and that's it. Took it to the dealer for service and they didn't say anything.

1. Definitely noticeable gains. You'll sink into that chair a little faster and deeper at higher speeds.
2. You should be leaving your house after reading this post and be driving over to your APR dealer at pre-chip no exhaust top speed!

4. I personally didnt feel the need to spend on it. Better spent on other mods.. Rs4 Sway maybe..
5. RS4 Sway on its way along with a K&N drop in. Plenty of mods in the waiting list, just need more money.

3. We'll see since my CEL light went off for the first time last night (i believe it might have to do with the Whistling DV issue or PCV) In for service now (of course sitting in stock tune!)
4. Agreed with whats stated above, who just checks the cruise control for the hell of it. (also i go to a specific tech at my dealer that is know for being "mod" friendly)

1.) OMG, are you kidding? Did you search? All you need to do is look at some thread titles.
2.) Depends on how far you are from your APR dealer. I'd say 100+ miles, wait for exhaust. If this doesn't apply to you, stop reading and go now, Stage II is free when you get exhaust.

4.) No, thought it was money better spent elsewhere. Dealer knows my mods, doesn't care cause I'm not a prick to them when I come in for service, we have a mutual respect.

4) What for.. you can't hide the fact that your car is chipped from the dealer... Is someone else go sneak in your car at night and connect an OBII connector to your car?? If i were you, I'd just get the 93, stock, and CEL delete program... all you really need.

1.)YES - specially if you do Oct93 program.

2.)NIKE - just do it.

3.)Too happy with it...so much so, that i have to force myself to use OCt.91 instead of 93 so im not wasting so much gas booting around

I had the APR Chip in my car. It made a huge difference. When I pulled out of the tuning shop and got onto the highway I noticed it right away. First and second gear, and even third throw you back in your seat. I'd be on the highway making a passing move in 4th. I wouldn't realize how fast I was going b/c the car pulls much harder and for much longer. I'd be doing 110 before I noticed how fast I was going. Woops! The only thing I didn't like, and caused me to get flashed back to stock, was the drivability was not the same. The car was very hard to drive smoothly at low speeds. Mainly between first and second. I'd always have a semi-rough shift I didn't really like that. Plus, I had a little bit of fuel cut as well. So I got flashed back to stock, got my money back and bought a STaSIS Exhaust instead.

The question of getting chipped again has crossed my mind. I probably will. Maybe over the summer. But I want to either get the APR fuel pump or have mine rebuilt before hand so I'll really have a nice smooth power band.

-tremendous gains in low/high end torque and hp gains

2.)Should i wait till i get my exhaust or just go for it?
- will not make enough difference for you to either get before or not...will just have sound difference..an exhaust will not enough performance gain for you to need to tune your chip

- this feature is only necessary if your dealer is not mod friendly, typically if your dealer is not friendly I wouldnt go there to begin with...I felt that security lockout was only really meant for this so no one besides yourself could "play with the settings" I couldnt justify spending the extra money to get it.
5.) Those with APR 93 what mods do you have done?
- cant answer this

and the answer of how much you like it is very subjective as everyones expectations are different...i love my chip it is truly night and day...this should have been one of the first mods I did to the car...

When you say the car was very hard to drive smoothly at low speeds, are you referring to "S Mode" or in standard "D". I really only notice the difference when I put the car into Sport or drive using the paddles. I never really thought that the APR program did much while driving normally. (Now that i think about it, I have tip. Are you driving MT? If so, completely disregard..

I havent had a problem driving my 6 speed with the chip. Although I went from an M3 to this so i was used to a pretty jerky ride for a daily driver. I still have no word on what is wrong with my car........

Very much so. Night and day.

Do it now, I'd rather be chipped than have any exhaust.

Very much so, if I bought another Audi next month I'd go APR again.

Up to you... I didn't, don't care, and am not going to.

Intake, test pipe. Stage 2 program (more aggressive program) since I have the other two mods.

- It's not necessary but a cool feature in case you gonna let your brother, wife , blah blah drive your car .... I personally Have it in Case *Quattro* had to drive my car .... He would be stuck on Stock !! Just for you Randy !!

- I dont run the 93 program normally but I do have it and Have run it twice now .... makes a great difference .. just mix your 91 with some 114 ( correct formula of coarse ) and like *Emeril* ... BAAM ! Kicks it up a Notch !

- You will love the power increase, engine response ... you will hate driving in stock mode or racing another *chipped * Audi cause .... you will trust me .. .but it will be fun!

- upgraded for the peace of mind. but I hate that the Forge DV is very quiet

= Just stage 1 ... only thing that would change your *stage* is the mods you have. For example ...A Loaded ECU with Stock, 91, 93 and Valet is still stage 1 all across the board.
Now .. If your mods are Basic bolt-ons plus you have a Test Pipe then you would be Stage 2 because the ECU program has a slight tweak for the Test Pipe, Mainly deleting the CEL. Some common issues with Stage 2 is that the APR file request slightly more fuel at the top end . This causes the * fuel cut offs * that most APR owners dislike. The symptoms are usually above 100mph.
That is an Issue most GIAC-X and Revo owners don't experience because the remap stays the same.. they just delete the CEL.

There is a big difference period. Doing a bit of rounding your gaining close to 50 hp and 50 ft/lb torque with almost 300ft-lb of torque. You won't find a better bang for the buck mod. That said don't expect that you will be running down Vets or M3 but the car will be fun just with the APR tune.

Didn't think so but it def will be a pick up and surprise people who see the a4 and expect less....im assuming....whats the change 0-60? not expecting much

I would venture to say you get a full second off your 0-60. Stock is like 7.2 sec. and this is definitely under that.

I'm gonna have to disagree with this statement. I've felt the difference between Stage I and Stage II on the 2.0T and the Stage II program gives you more top-end power.

Lock out feature is only used for locking people out of it. Just because the dealership cant engage the chipped mode dosent mean they wont know your chiped. All they have to do is log your car and see how much boost your ECU is requesting. thats why its best to have a seperate ECU handy so you can switch it out before you go to the dealer.

Also if your taking your car there for an oil change or there scheduled regualr service they wont even look. Its when you bring the car to them with a blown turbo or anything mechanicaly wrong with the motor that they will check this. once found your wrannty is voided.

Lastly, You CAN run 91 octane on a 93 tune. cars now a days have kock sensor that detect any knocking coming from the motor. It will adapt on its own by pulling or adding timing. Now if your on a race file that tuned for 110 octane and your running 91 you will do damage.

I just had my DV replaced yesterday and i think i tore the new one 3 hours later. I'll be getting the forged DV later this week.

Have any of you with the 93oct chip had issues with the whistling sound for the front passenger side of the engine at higher then 4000RPM at WOT?

8) stock +1 program means you get the stock program and also 1 additional program. Depending on which part of the states you are in and what gas you put in. Being that youre in New York, you should be using shell v power or bp ulimate which is 93. so your stock +1 would be stock program and apr 93 program

I disagree with this statement. The ecu only has so much % it can adjust .. so why would you want it to REDUCE PERFORMANCE ???? Just run the 91 with 91 and when You have 93 run 93. I've ran the 93 on a cold night with 91 gas and it DOES feel slightly better but it no where compares when you actually have 93 in the tank. I mix 91 and 114 to make 93 using the correct formula of coarse and it works great and feels WAY better with a nice cool evening or cool atmosphere. run 91 with the 91 and it will run its best with the gas you have and youll have the peace of mind that its within the ECU's capacity to adjust to the weather conditions.
