    Stock "Y" Pipe removal

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was looking at my stock "Y" Pipe last night because I want to get it cleaned up....... Is it really as simple as it looks to remove it?

Is there anything vital to know?

    Any hoses to worry about?

Is it safe to remove it to clean?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

I dunno about the a6, but I'm pretty sure you need to pull the front end off to remove them. You are talking about the black plastic pipes in the front of the motor, and not the aluminum Y pipe on top correct?

You can remove the Bi-pipes without moving the lock carrier assembly but, it will not be easy.

You have to unbolt the (2) 10mm bolts that hold them to the timing covers and un-clamp both ends of the pipe from above. Once you have that done, you should be able to pop them off and out.

Ok maybe its my wording that's wrong.... I am talking about the Y pipe running from the intake .... like the one showing in my avatar? Are we one the same page?

Yeah...I figured it would be more likely you'd want to clean the Ypipe and not the Bipipe(s). It should come off pretty easy. Obviously take of the 3 big hoses, and the pcv valve, and then I think it's pretty self explanatory if you take of the 3 plastic covers after that. You might want to stick a rag into the 3 big hoses so you don't accidentally drop anything in them, cause that would be bad. And don't worry if there is a little oil in the Ypipe. It's normal.

    Re: Stock Bi Pipe removal

What he said.... 3 bolts. and cut away the one time use clamps from the pipes that go to the turbos. Be careful with the PCV hose, it breaks easy, Just squeeze on both sides and jiggle. I changed out the clamps to Stainless T-bolt clamps on mine for the MAF tube, PCV, and Turbo pipes so that it is easier to remove in the future.

Sometimes the Y-pipe likes to stick to the rubber hoses that go to the turbos. Just take a small flat head screwdriver and slide it in and roll it around the edges to break it loose. You shouldn't have to worry about tearing them. They are pretty tough. Also, don't worry about cranking down your new clamps too much. Remember, there isn't any pressure on that particular part of the intake.

Dont' freak out if there is a little oil inside the pipe. Its normal for the PCV system to spray a bit in there.

One last bit of advice: Send it to me to wrap it in CF. Then it will match your CF airbox cover and engine covers! just kidding.

HOWEVER: I'm dying to see your engine bay now with all the CF, so you gotsta hurry and post some pics.

LOL, that would be pretty sick in CF.

This is why I am trying to clean it up though so I can put the covers on.

Thanks guys for the help! This whole time I thought the APR Bi pipes were to replace the Y pipe but now i see they start were the throttle body boot is...... I am dumb
