so forgemotorsports.com has a blanking plate for the EGR intake I think, what kind of benefits does restricting that secondary pump have?

It's really not worth the effort. If you block off the EGR, you won't notice any appreciable gains in HP and you will have a slight decrease in highway fuel economy. The only benefit to eliminating the EGR is that you will lower the rate of deposit buildup in your intake by blocking the EGR. It's really meant for race cars and not street cars.

First off, our cars DO NOT HAVE EGR!

I would assume he is referring to SAI which has absolutely NOTHING to do with putting anything into the intake or lowering any type of buildup. SAI does nothing more than on cold start supply unmetered air from the intake post MAF directly to the head. In turn the A/F is leaned out slightly causing higher EGT's, therefore getting the CAT to an efficient operating temperature quicker. As soon as the cars idle comes down to normal (800 or so), SAI is off and does nothing.

Getting to what you were confused about, would be the crank and valve cover breather system as well as the mess of hoses underneath the intake manifold. This is the ONLY possible OEM setup on our cars that could put any type of deposit into the charge system. It does this by supplying a vac through the TIP when in boost, and also directly to the intake manifold for when in vacumm. Again, all this serves is to pull into the motor any oil residue or any other harmful biproduct from your motor, in order for it to burn it and provide the lowest emissions. This can all be removed, a catch can or just an open dump to the ground will serve the same purpose, clean up a bunch of the engine bay and also make the engine run cleaner as its taking in less "crap."

The last piece of our car which is clearly understood is the EVAP, possibly something else you were getting confused. EVAP is a system on the car which removes any buildup vapors from the fuel tank, it then stores them in the charcoal canister (found inside the drivers fender well). When the car is in a cruise mode, usually on the highway with the cruise on or with a steady engine speed, the ECU will open the system, pull the vapors from the charcoal canister and put them either into the TIP or directly into the intake manifold. Again for emissions and is said to help fuel economy (which it doesnt really)

There is MUCH confusion on all of these components everytime I read a thread like this! Please dont try to explain something unless you fully understand it as it just spreads a completely incorrect explanation of the systems!!!

I was explaining that blocking off the EGR on a car is a generally bad idea. I didn't try to explain how his engine works, just what effect blocking off the EGR on any car would have. Now, the fact that there isn't an EGR at all on this motor makes me wonder where this thread came from.....

What you explained has nothing to do with EGR which is commonly misunderstood as SAI with our cars. EGR is normally used to do the same function as SAI (on our cars), hence the reason some people call it EGR

Ok, so other than going off on some shpeil about how smart you are, I guess thanks for halfway answering my question, but for future purpose, if you look in our "owners...manual" you will see the the SAI is "part of the EGR system"

I would hope from my explanation that you could answer your question. Blocking off SAI does nothing more than clean up the engine bay. If you are running a testpipe SAI is useless as its purpose has been removed.

EGR = exhaust gas recirculation. By that definition we do not have a EGR system on the car, it is just designed to work in the same way but by pumping fresh air.

^^ yes, EGR is used on diesel Audis..SAI on gasoline Audis, it may just be a generic topic in the manual
