im a new audi owner.. well, about to be new audi owner, im picking up a 98 a4 2.8 with 137k on it tomorrow.. im so excited!
now i know toyotas and hondas can last well over 200k, but is it the same for audis? can they last just as long with minimal problems? i know they are more performance and luxury cars but i was just wondering about the durability. thats partly why i got a 2.8 over the 1.8.. hoping it will last a while..

as long as the previous owners have kept up on the regular maint. on the car, it should last just as long as the hondas.

It is a german engineered vehicle, but just like any other car it all depends on how you maintain and drive it. Of course people will disagree with me, but there are a couple members on here that have pushed thier cars over the 200k mark and still 'trucking' it. I plan on keeping mine for a very long time, so maintance is one of my biggest concerns as of right now. Getting my car in tip top shape and keeping her that way. So, she may be stock. But she's clean.

Re: so how long can they really last??

Just like Seerlay said, as long as there well maintained and not driven hard all the time they will last. My friend just sold his 97 a4 v6 (same as mine) with 190k miles on it and it ran really well still. So trust me these cars can last. There will be maintenance involved but thats what you have to sacrifice to drive a nice car like an audi.

Re: so how long can they really last??

My BT 2001 has 130k miles on it.

I've been very lucky nothing serious has happened. Replaced an axle, Hazard relay switch, and thats all I can think of at this moment.

Of course I've screwed some stuff up myself :)

As and owner of both Audis and Hondas, they both will last a long long time, biggest difference in the Audi will be slightly higher to maintain/repair BUT the Audi/Turbo/Quattro is 1000x's more fun to own and drive.

Re: so how long can they really last??

my old VW mech (vw audi same thing) had a saying. a german engine isn't broken in till 100K. he would hunt down old MK2 and MK1's for his clients and they would have 200K on the clock and the motors would act like they had 20K. as long as you take care of it a german car will just keep going and going.

The car can last beyond 200k if taken care of. The tranny may go but everything else will be fine.
