My friend is selling his two JL audio 12" subs, JL 500/1 Amp, custom box, and great wiring for $350.

Would this be an easy install for best buy or car audio?

i have bose premium right now. Do you think i will need to replace the other speakers?

It shouldn't be that hard, Im not sure on the speakers though. As for the install, I've seen them do it, it depends on the nearest best buy to you, I work at best buy myself and they can install just about anything. I would give them a call and ask about prices. They have a lifetime guarantee on the install so you should be good if they mess up.

What JL subs? W3? W6? W7? Shouldn't be too much work for best buy, but ask around some audio shops as well.

I think the bestbuy employee said it best about the install. As for replacing the speakers - you won't have to. I just had an Alpine type-r installed with an alpine amp and kept the factory headunit and bose speakers.

    Re: Subs???

you jsut need to add a hi lo converter to your factory head unit.. im using a pac-audio peice called an sni-35... gives you RCA outputs on your factoy deck... as for sub control (since your factory deck doesnt have serpeate subwoofer control) i hadded pac part lc-1 which is a line level controller jsut hooke dup with a set of rca... mounted in my center console so i can tune the bass exactly how i want... and if you are ever going to add speakers or anything and want to keep your factory head unit... get AudioControl peice DQL8... that will give you enough power to do a sub amp and a 4 channel amp.. as well as a wired remote so you can tune crossovers and jsut about everything with that remote... hope it helps... bu tliek asked above.. what jl subs... thwe way it works is 12w1 amp fits the a/e 1200 series... one w3 is set for 250/1 and one w6 is set for 500/1 and last but not least the w7 set for the 1000/1 so obvviously if its two w3 that would pound off of your 500/1...hope that helps

with the JL 500/1 you won't need a high to low converter. JL designed these amps to take an input voltage as high as a speaker level input. Just hack up a set of RCA's and tap them into your factory sub speaker wire for signal. It's all outlined in the manual you can download from the JL website.

    Re: Subs???

Best Buy Insalled a really nice setup in my Allroad. We mounted the volt meter on the firewall. So that when you opend the hood the volts would read in blue behind the 2.7tt. This 2 Gauge wiring kit powerd my 12" Infinity Reference Sub. wrapped in an Obocn Ported box. My wagon Bumped. Then they amized me with the install of my EXAD JVC head unit. Everything fit perfectly. I enjoyed the sound quality of my stock bose speakers. If you buy a quality head unit you will get nice sound. They installed my JVC EXAD system perfectly. I purchased my head unit from onlinecarstereo.com and paid Best Buy to install it. Best buy also uninstalled my system and re installed my stock symphony system for free. I plan to have them install the same setup+Red Uniden Police scanner below my EXAD's DIN. The housing is a double DIN so it will be JVC top DIN then Scanner bottom DIN. Best Buy IS GOOD!

    Re: Subs???

It's an easy install. Wiring the amp is no different than any other car, they will simply tap the rear sub or speakers to get the signal, and will probably use a rca converter instead of running hi-level input to the amp. If you have Bose, you won't really need to replace any speakers.

$350 for a JL 500/1, 2 subs, a box, and wiring is an AWESOME deal. Check the retail prices on that package...it's well over $1000.

    Re: Subs???

i have a rockford fosgate 12" in my car. If your getting a new headunit then i would go to a audio shop but if your going to keep your stock headunit then best buy should be able to do it. I had mine done at a local audio shop and they did a fairly good install. Some imperfections but still very good. I have no experience with bestbuy but i felt safer going to an audio shop.

Indeed. I have mine mounted underneath the e-brake handle and split to control both of my 500/1's.
