MP3 files - SD Card vs. CDR

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have the Bose with Nav/iPod on My '08 and I recorded a CDR full of MP3's (loose files- no folders) and after I inserted the disc, only the first 2 files showed up on the screen Next, using a pc, I then copied all files directly from that same CDR onto an SD card. After I inserted the SD Card into the slot, all files displayed and played without a problem. Anyone experienced a similar phenomenon?

Not a Mac user. I'm running Win XP and I recorded the CDR with Nero. I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with the CDR since I was able to copy the files using a diferent P and I was also able to play the disc on a different CD player.

Stop wasting cents on CDs. Just use a SD card, you can have folders and everything too.

I agree with this, however you can get re-usability out of CD's (CDRW's). You have WAY more room to expand on a SD card. I think a lot of this problem is the POS stock head unit.

Re: MP3 files - SD Card vs. CDR

I had a similar problem. My friend burned a mp3 cd for a trip we took a while back and only the first couple of songs played. The others showed up, but it would just skip through all of them. I think he said that those songs were in a different format but I can't really remember...

Does anyone know what file types the head unit will play for the SD cards? Sometimes when I load songs onto an SD card a couple of them don't show up at all. I think this is due to them being a different format?

Re: MP3 files - SD Card vs. CDR

Thanks, I just ordered an 8GB SD Card and hope I won't have any issues with it. Glassnpowder: All MP3 files are basically the same, however the compression might be different i.e. constant 192bps vs. VBR (variable bit rate). Also some files might be missing ID3 tags which have different versions too. Basically from my experience with pc music, if a player reads MP3's, it should be able to read all of them, unless the file is corrupt/incomplete. Other than MP3 and WAV (uncompressed windows format), I don't use any other formats, but some of the popular ones are AAC (Apple) and WMA (Microsoft).

Re: MP3 files - SD Card vs. CDR

Thanks for the info. I actually think that the mp3's that don't show up are in WMA format... I'll have to check that out when I get home from work today.

If you have the audi navigation plus, the screen folds out and down. Behind it are two SD card slots as well as your navi cd slot/mp3 cd slot.

I just ordered an 8GB card (SDHD) from Newegg, so we'll see when it gets here. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Must give thumbs up to Audi for this feature, since many other manufacturers put in 10GB hard drives that require you to rip your CD's in the car vs. copying files using your PC.

SD High Capacity (SDHC) cards WILL NOT WORK in the RNS-E. Only regular SD cards will work properly. The largest non-HC SD card you can get is 4GB. Check out www.navplus.us if you want more info, there is more information than you could ever want about SD cards and MP3 playback.

I guess you're right. I have to order another one then.
