    Suede Headliner & Pillars

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey,

I lent my car to a friend for the week and besides finding out that he was smoking in it (with additional people smoking in it) he also demonstrated his awful hand eye coordination and left burn marks on both the driver and passenger a-pillars. I've ordered two new pillar liners but I was thinking that I should maybe take this time and do a suede lining of the pillars and roof. Anyone done this? Have any clever ideas as to how I can go about doing this?

    Best,
    Max

    1. I would get it professionally done. If your interior is black, i would think that black suede with red stitching would go well with a black leather interior

    2. With friends like that, you don't need enemies :) +1 that you should shoot your friend. Several times, in fact. Then feed what's left to fish.

I seriously hope hes paying for it. I think suede would only look good if you incorporate it somewhere else in the car, like the doors or something. It should look very nice and classy though either way.

I don't like suede as it never looks uniform. Suede shows marks anytime you touch it, which makes it look lighter/darker in certain areas.

Factory Collision in Weymouth, MA, did a guys S5 with a black suede headliner. Its pretty pricey though around $3000, mostly labor because you gotta take windshield out in order to take the headliner out, from what I've been told.

My first brand new bike, two days old, was totaled by a friend driving it around the block even though he stepped up to the plate -I don't drive other people's vehicles...they don't dive mine!

Unless your "friend" was immediately apologetic & financially responsible...your story would not have a happy ending!

    Re: Suede Headliner & Pillars

I hear you guys regarding lending to a friend but the S4 doesn't get much use and I've never seen anyone apologize in such a way as he did. And the fact that he brought the car back to me with a grand in hand (not easy to come by for him...) made it easier to accept. (I refused the grand... its the gesture that counts... the a-pillars cost 70 bucks)...

Anyway... Back to SUEDE!!!! Dolphin; do you want to tell me about how the process went... did you order the suede yourself...?
lrae.... windshield removal... some shoddy installers: read your bentley guides to disassembling your car. 3K?? wow. no way.

    Re: Suede Headliner & Pillars

well, I rarely let any shop works on my car, so I removed all pieces by myself. (Of course, witht the help of bentley manual) Then, I went to 2 or 3 local stores to find the suede I like. After that, I found a shop that I can trust to cover all the pieces in suede.

    Re: Suede Headliner & Pillars

p.s. channad I have an AWFUL valet story for you. Montreal Ritz-Carleton, I deliver the car to the valet in the early hours of a winter morning... except that instead of checking in and going to sleep, my girlfriend and I decide to go grab some starbucks (some two blocks away)... while she's sipping away at her mocha she points out this car that's busting out donuts down the street on a snowy intersection..."wow i hope you never do THAT with me inside... because that looks really similar to yours..." ... or something thereof... i turn around and in the quietness i hear the whine and just look out in disbelief as the car drives towards the starbucks and turns right uphill to get to the hotel... (i can guarantee to anyone who's considering a torsen differential: it did a beautiful job at kicking out the tail but keeping things under control).... needless to say we run up to the hotel and i start yelling at the concierge who thinks i'm kidding... until the valet fails to answer his radio.... some five (long) minutes later the valet returns because effectively the rear driver's side tire suffered a puncture; teh crap.

his excuse was one that i propose should be inducted in the Valet Diver's Abuse Hall of Fame : "But sir, you can just imagine what its like to try that car." I couldn't even come up with anything to say.

p.p.s. sorry for threadjacking my own thread.
