    Why is nothing ever easy?

So I bought some rims on here a couple weeks ago. I got them, and went to put them on the car the day I got them. First noticed the tires have no air . Next, the front tires rub against the control arm . Have to put the stocks back on . Do some research and determine a set of 5mm hubcentric spacers are needed for the tires to clear. Order them, pay 2nd day air shipping, and the company first put it in as ground, and had to cancel the order and put it in again, only it was too late to ship it out that day, and instead of bumping it up to next day at their cost, they just put it in as 2nd day, and shipped it the next day. Problem? It shipped out on Thursday, which means it wouldn't come until Monday normally, except it was Memorial Day. So I paid 2nd day air shipping for the things to take 6 days to get here . So today I get them, throw the rims in my van to get air in them before mounting them. Get back, start on the passenger side, get the spacers and rims on, and looks good. The skies are getting dark, thunder, the rain is definitely coming. Go around the driver side, start to loosen the bolts before lifting the car. The wrench doesn't seem to be fitting on the bolts. I bend down and look. The bolts are not the factory bolts. For some fucking reason, they were changed out. There is no wrench in the car that fits these bolts. So yet ANOTHER fucking delay in getting these fucking things on the car. I tell you, after all this, I don't even want the fucking things anymore. Too much bullshit. All the giddiness at getting them is gone.

He delivered the rims as promised. The offset was not correct, otherwise they were fine. It's been a series of events since I got them that has been so infuriating.

Re: Why is nothing ever easy?

well, I took the car out today, with one stock wheel still on. The car shimmies like crazy. Took it to a local tire place, who said they will not touch a car with spacers. He said anytime you use spacers it will shimmy like that. I bought a set of brand new Eibach 5mm hubcentric spacers. Should I have any shimmy? Could the fact I have on stock rim still on (left/rear) effect it?

This is a pic of what the rims look like on the car. I didn't take nice pics, I was pissed and it started raining.

Re: Why is nothing ever easy?

might want to check for hubcentric rings. What type of wheels are they? i can't see your pictures at work, so i can't tell...

Either way, as long as the wheels and tires were balanced correctly, there should be no vibrations. Spacers shouldn't be the problem as long as you have the accompanied bolts that are long enough to reach the hub. Do the wheels require particular bolts - as in conical vs. anything else?

Re: Why is nothing ever easy?

you say you have a stock wheel on the rear driver's side.
is this wheel different than the other 3 in terms of weight, size, design, offset, etc...?

and if i understand correctly, you put 3 new rims/tires on, but kept one stock rim/tire on?

to me, that's part of the problem already.

all same-sized rims are not necessarily the same in every other aspect, therefore, you can't just swap one for another on your car and expect it to ride smooth.

maybe there's a bend in your stock wheel, or your wheels need proper balancing....

as for spacers, there shouldn't be an issue as long as you have the longer bolts to accommodate the spacer and the correct type of bolt for your wheels.

i use a 5 mm spacer for my 19's and they run fine...

just be sure you have all the right matching equipment before you put the rims on your car...it's a nightmare otherwise...

Re: Why is nothing ever easy?

The only reason I still have a stock rim on is because the bolts on used on that rim were not the stock bolts. The wrench I have did not fit. I am going to try my Socket set when I get home, see if I have the right size.

The spacers came as a set, two spacers, and 10 longer bolts. Supposedly the wheels were balanced before they were shipped, I can only go on his word on that. The shop I went to will not balance them, or even touch them because of the spacers.

Re: Why is nothing ever easy?

that's dumb as shit. spacers have nothing to do with the act of balancing a wheel since you balance wheels and tires on a machine seperate from the car. Go to a different shop, sounds like you're working with idiots.

I learned long ago to not let the little shit get to me. Lower blood pressure and you are less prone to anger.

I agree that the shop should not give 2 shits about the spacers. Worst comes to worst, just take the rims off the car and take them to get balanced separately, therefore no spacers involved. Bottom line, if they are balanced and tight, they should not shimmy.
