    B5 MPG Question

Ok guys, thinking about getting another B5 A4. I wanna know some mpg calculations everyone is getting for their 1.8t's and 2.8's as well. Leaning towards the 1.8t, but I'm curious as to what type of gas mileage they are getting as opposed to the 2.8 V6.

    Re: B5 MPG Question

Honestly, both get about the same... The 1.8t actually does worse around town than I had hoped... I have owned both of them, both at the same time, driven the same way and maintenance always taken care of... Always used the same gas too... Pretty good for comparison IMO...

1.8t got around 22-23 with mixed driving.
2.8 got around 21-23 with mixed driving.

    1.8t 19-22 around town
    2.8 19-21 around town

Average highway for the 1.8t was 27-28
Average highway for the 2.8 was 25-27

Best highway on the 1.8t was 32
Best highway on the 2.8 was 37 - probably will never happen again

    Re: B5 MPG Question

I can get 32 MPG @ 65 mph highway cruising with 1.8T Quattro.

Average comes out to 24-26 mpg city/highway alltogether.

    Re: B5 MPG Question

yes the 1.8 and 2.8 get about the same mileage, but on the 1.8 if your are chipped and keep the hammer down your mileage is gonna drop fast.

    Re: B5 MPG Question

I was also giving number above for my 30V... FWIW, the 2.8 has less problems and needs less maintenance if you are looking for a daily driver... My 2.8 is maybe 1 car lenghth slower in the 1/4 mile than my 1.8t with all mods with stock turbo... Test pipe, chip, K&N, exhaust, etc....

    Re: B5 MPG Question

my 1.8T gets around like 28-32 ez on highway,

and around town like 24 if u just cruise

my AVg comes out to 25 but i dont drive highway a lot, and I tend to drive like a normal person not a HONDABOI attempting to race anything, i think a better question is whats there gas mileage, because i have noticed any modified Civic is in there view a super sonic rocket

    Re: B5 MPG Question

Thanks for the replies guys, I was just curious. Hmm, gives me something to think about. I've had a 03 B6 A4 1.8t (the toasted car in my avatar pic) and a 97 B5 1.8t. I loved both of them but didn't really pay that much attention to the gas mileage when I had them. I guess that's because gas wasn't $4.00 a gallon. [O_O]

    Re: B5 MPG Question

    Going from a '96 12V to a '98.5 1.8T both with similar mileage, my 1.8T averages about 2-3mpg better.
My 2.8 was stock minus the short ram intake.
My '98.5 has been modded, but I drive it pretty calmly around town. Personal best on the 1.8 is 32.66 highway only, while maintaining about 27 average(mixed) with going to school and what not.

I can't remember exactly what I got in the 2.8 on the highway, but 28 sounds about normal. Granted the longer gear ratios helped out as well.
I went from ~22mpg avg in my Camaro to ~24 avg/mixed in the 2.8, then ~27 avg/mixed in the 1.8T

Quick question for whoever has posted the mpg so far. Did you guys post these numbers from what the cluster says or you guys actually calculated that?
I get around 16 to 17 mpg when driving city, and about 24 to 26 mpg on highway.

OUCH !! At lease its cheaper for you than us, we pay 1.25GBP for super (98 ron ) gas. Around £75 to fill a 2wd A4 which at the mo is probably about $140 for 350 miles on my K04'd A4

    Re: B5 MPG Question

naaa, its not bad at all. I paid $10.57 a gallon 3 weeks ago when I was in Serbia visting family. Luckily A3 isn't as thirsty as the A6. I don't complain cause we are still half of what Europe is. America has just been spoiled with cheap gas forever, thats why everyone complains. No matter how you cut it, driving is a luxury. My legs still work. I would use them if I needed to

filled up yesterday almost on empty. 13.8 gallons was $60.32. driving is getting spendy. too bad public transportation systems in the united states suck(most places in US anyways) and you have to drive to be able to do anything or else i would take a train or bus....even a bicycle on nice days.

My last fill up on my 1.8T came out to 25.2 MPG, will 100% around town driving.

This was my calculations...trip ODO/Gal. My MFA said I did 26.5 or something. I really need to adjust that one of these days so it's a bit more accurate.
