Anybody know how to take off the roof antenna? A friend and I are going to try to wrap the roof in black vinyl and want to remove it for the install. He will be using flat black but I'm thinking about using gloss black because of the shiny sunroof on my car. I feel it will flow better.

The shark fin? I believe there is a bolt/nut assembly under the rear interior dome light that holds this to the roof.

    Re: roof antenna

Roof antenna is held on by a ring nut that screws down on the male threaded end from the antenna. The male end is hollow to allow the antenna wire through. It's a PITA to get to. You need to remove the rear dome light and the rear roof headliner panel to gain access. You don't need to remove the entire headliner.

I would have never guessed that I would have to access it from the inside. that's crazy!!

    Re: roof antenna

it should look the same as long as you do it right and take your time. probably want to leave it outside for a bit too, just to let the airbubbles dry out. Highgloss vinyl FTMFW!

    Re: roof antenna

if you've never installed vinyl before you might want to have someone who has, do it for you. You have to make sure you wet down the top of your car pretty good to allow for placement of the vinyl. Get it to where you want it then start trimming it to fit. Get a vinyl squeege and start working the liquid and air bubbles to the side. Heat guns can be needed but not always. take your time and make it look nice. By the way you want to prep your paint too before applyng anything to it to get rid of dirt and dust particals.

    Re: roof antenna

so thats it? its basically like putting on one of the headlight films? just wet it and press it down with a squeege(for the most part)? that sounds wicked easy. lol

like I said, take your time and do it right and you won't be disappointed. If you can do headlight film then you should be able to do this.
