    660 Mile Road Trip

Left out of Raleigh NC this morning around 7 and arrived at the Naval Submarine Base in Groton CT at about 6:30. Filled up before I left and filled up again when my fuel light came on when the trip meter read 437 miles. I dont know if this is unusual or if my car was just having a good day but it said my average highway mpg was 39. Guess I had a good tail wind or something. I didnt know if anyone else had a similar story from a previous trip that they could share. Needless to say I was pretty happy with the outcome and almost spent more on toll booths then I did gas for the whole trip.

Wow, that's really good. I just had a recent road trip with my car too and put on about 2400km's (1500miles) and I averaged 8.7L/100km (27mpg).

    Re: 660 Mile Road Trip

I just drove my car from Raleigh to Miami and drove around there for 4 days. During the trip I made close to 28mpg. If I include the Miami traffic and all I did 1563 miles at 24.5mpg over 4 days. (14hr drive one way to Miami).

    Re: 660 Mile Road Trip

Those readings are never accurate. Best way to check your actual mileage is to fill up your tank and go for a trip and ride out the tank until it reads 0 mi. Fill up and record how many gallons went in. Divide the number of miles from full tank to 0 mi by the number of refilled gallons and you will get an average mpg.

So when you filled up you most likely put in 14+ gallons and drove 437 miles on full tank. 437/14=31 mpg (still really good)

    Re: 660 Mile Road Trip

I've tested my trip computer on many different occassions by doing the math, and it's always spot on. I didn't bother to do the math this trip, but there is no doubt I was actually getting that milage.

    Re: 660 Mile Road Trip

That seems normal to me. I drive to and from school, 530 miles, on usually 20 gallons, or one tank and a quarter tank. I've never checked my mpg, but I always figured this was normal for our cars on the highway. And I usually cruise about 95 the entire way home.

How fast were you going? I can only imagine getting over 24mpg... but then again, I can't seem to drive under 85mph on long trips.

    Re: 660 Mile Road Trip

Usually ~10 mph over the speed limit (so anywhere from 65 to 80) going from CT to VA via route 81. Did it over memorial day weekend, so no excessive speeding with all the extra cops around ;-)

i think its easy as hell to drive conservatively, compared to N/A cars you have to build boost by putting your foot into it before you can go anywhere. i got more speeding tickets in my 01 ranger with a 4 cyl than in the S
