If you're strapped for cash, why don't you surf the classifieds?

Here, AW, craigslist, and tons of other car-related boards have guys who upgrade wheels, sell cars, etc. and end up with tires they need to get rid of - even nearly-new on occasion. Even with shipping, you could end up with a great set of tires for far less than you'll pay for a cheap brand.

Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's and Goodyear F1's would be good finds.

Use the Tire Rack to check reviews when you find them.

Very true, but i'd be weary of buying used tires. First off, how much are you looking to spend? My guess is your looking for summer tires not all seasons? You can get ultra high performance summer tires for $130-$150 a tire.

Be sure to remember that shipping would be around $50 and it would be around $80 to have them mounted and balanced.

Re: What tires for stock rims?

Oooh speaking of tires, i put a larger set of tires on my s4 (245/45/17) and i noticed the grip is better, the only problem is when i turn my wheel to the extreme left or right when backing out/pulling away from being parked, the power steering belt seems to whine pretty loud. Is it because of the bigger tires or what? Im pretty clueless when it comes to this shit.

Re: What tires for stock rims?

I'd stick with a 235/45/17. You could prolly do a 245/40/17 but they are gonna stick out past the wheel. stock wheels arn't wide enough to pull them off and they might rub depending on what brand tires you go with. Some brands and models of tires run wider then
they are actully rated. If I were you and trying to get the best bang for your buck id go with the nitto invo or the neo gen if you can find them. Ive been calling nitto for the last month trying to get them in 225 and 235.
