    Type of Gas

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
The subject was brought up yesterday at our gtg we had in Toronto. What gas is the better gas? I run 94, but the manufacturing tolerances on it are not very good.....meaning you could be buying 92 or 95. Power is good with it, but one of the guys said he was running 91 from Shell and got 10% more milage.....plus, with Shell, the gas they put out is minimum 91.

Any ideas? What does everyone run?

Brand, Octane, doesn't matter. Just personal experiences in whether something gets you better milage, more power, cleaner, clogged injectors......whatever!

    Re: Type of Gas

I use Chevron 91 octane (california mix) almost exclusively... I get 24mpg around town and 30+ on the freeway. I did almost run out of gas one time and had to put 89 in my car but I really didn't notice a difference in performance.

BP 92 seems to be the best in my part of the country. A local guy has done extensive data logging and has seen the least amount of timing pull with BP.

    Re: Type of Gas

I only run Shell 91. I think its important to be consistent with what you run more than anything else. If you're not tuned for 93, there's no reason to run it. I've run Sunoco 93 before, but only when I know I had a bad batch of gas from the bottom of the tank at Shell - another thing to watch out for. Don't fill up if lots of pumps are off or the refill truck is just pulling in.

Brand and Octane do matter, not all brands offer the same gas, even if it's 93. Audi came out with a list of Brands you should buy from, I'm sure a google search will produce it.

i run Sunoco in toronto 94 ONLY! i get amazingly rediclious millage + that top tier shit is garbage beucase 94 also meets and exceeds the top tier shit + they run 94 and i believe the higher the octane the cleaner the gas i think 91 still has a little ethnol in it while sunoco 94 doesnt.

im apr 94 and i only use 94 even with the high gas prices i only use 94 beucase 91 jsut doesent preform the same reguardless of where you get it.

that's why I run 94. I notice that it's clean, but I can't say the gas milage is outstanding. On a highway run just cruising I could probably get around 700km on a tank, but combined city and highway I'm in the 400-500 range....usually lower 400's

Not that heavy! Sometimes I get on the boost when I'm entering the highway, but it's usually pretty plain. Especially in this joke of a town....you can't go anywhere without hitting another car, light, or pothole. Makes it hard to go fast!

    Re: Type of Gas

    Fact-
higher octane does NOT equal cleaner gas per se. Only more energy per pound mass, and more resistance to knock.

when I run hess 93 (10% ethanol) i average about 26 highway, with shell 93 i get 32 on the dot. same price, you decide

    Re: Type of Gas

higher octane gas usuailly has less adatives and shit which creates a cleaner gas,

and the reason teh hess 93 gets less is beucase of the fact that there is 10%ethnol added and with the shell there is less then that if any at all !

    Re: Type of Gas

Interesting thing....maybe it's just a huge ass coincidence, but now that I'm running Shell 91 in this tank my boost only goes to 10psi. I'm sure I'm probably in some sort of limp, but when this tank runs out, I'm putting 94 back in and see what I get. If I'm back up to 20-25psi then I can't believe our computers can adjust that much.
