what is this?

trying to replace my valve cover gaskets but there is one problem, there is a nipple of something in the way. what part is this and is there a way around this or do i have to remove? if i have to move this out of the way, how do i go about doing this? [IMG]. for some reason i can't post a pic. it's the silver cylindrical thing between the firewall and the valve cover.

Just got done doing mine take it that its the pass side,have to reach back there and loosen the allen head bolts and slide back out of the way three all together.Dont have to take bolts out just loosen them enough to get clearance.It's a little bit of a pain in the ass.
