Going to Tint Windows: Needs Advice/Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Okay, so I'm going to be tinting my windows soon. It'll be my first "mod."

Problem is, I have no idea what I'm getting into here, so I need your help.

First, what price is this likely going to run for all 4 side and back?

Second, what questions do I need to ask to make sure this place doesn't suck? I mean, do I need to worry about them taking off door panels?

Third, what resources can I check to see what the legal tint limits are for my state (Georgia)?

Fourth, anything else I need to worry about? Different types of tint? Etc?

I've got some pics of my car posted, so any suggestions on what you think might look good on it would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Re: Going to Tint Windows: Needs Advice/Help

i recommend doing some homework first...
try posting in your regional forum to see whos had experiences in and around atl, wheres a quality place in a price range you can handle.
then talk to each place. ask about warranties, film upgrades, etc.

i got mine done with computer cut so it fits the a4 perfectly. the film was an upgraded version that will not fade ever and it has a higher gloss look and looks more professional. as for cost i got all 7 windows done at 13% for $220. it was a little chaper too bc i brought in 2 cars to have done. GL. its totally worth it

Re: Going to Tint Windows: Needs Advice/Help

I just paid $170 at a very reputable Orlando shop. They used Llumar Stealth, which is supposedly a premium film. I've read good and bad about it, but being a "premium" Llumar film, it has a lifetime warranty.

Georgia tint law: http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/GA/ (kinda sucks - we get to go much darker in the rear in Florida)

I would double check the law though.

So far, I'm very happy with it. The black interior of my car makes it seem even darker.

    This is from yesterday morning:

Re: Going to Tint Windows: Needs Advice/Help

I'm not sure what the law's here in California are regarding rear windows, but I've always tinted all 5 windows for about $200, or $45 per window. I usually go Darkest on the back three (not limo tint dark but 1 step lighter), and then on the passenger and drivers side I go about 35%. I've done this to all 6 of the cars I have ever owned. I've received only 2 fix-it tickets because in California you can't have the front 2 tinted. But fix-it tickets cost $10 then I just re-tint them and am more careful about rolling the front 2 down in certain areas :)

Re: Going to Tint Windows: Needs Advice/Help

A lot depends on what kind of film you get, too. I've had 3 cars that I've had tinted, the first one was the cheapest, and it showed (03 Sentra). The second was more expensive, but they failed to address a major concern with the vehicle, where the interior window seal would scratch the tint (another place wanted to charge more, but they would have put moleskin on the interior seal, thus no scratches). I went the cheaper route and regretted it (06 Mustang GT). Then I went the expensive route on my 07 Mazdaspeed 3, F1 Formula ceramic tint (I know someone else on here has this). Absolutely incredible! I'll be taking my A4 there very soon. They were the most expensive, but well worth it. I think I paid about $240 for the Mazda. Plus, they were the only shop that didn't remove door panels AND cleaned up after themselves. As in, no big drip marks down the door panels. If you are going to spend they money, take the high road.

Re: Going to Tint Windows: Needs Advice/Help

I originally had some old tint on my car. It cost me $250 for them to REMOVE the old tint AND retint the back windshield 5% and the sides 20%.

I am getting my sides retinted real soon to 5%....for $120....But i will bargain for $100, lol
