wifey got a ticket in her REVO Chipped GTi and she's blaming it on me for chipping the car.

Funny thing is I kept telling her that her driving style is going to get her a ticket because she doesn't speed in little bursts. Instead, she cruises at higher than normal rates of speed for durations of time. Everytime I ride with her, I tell her that she is going to get a ticket. Sure enough, she gets on caught by the motor officer that sits in the same spot everyday of the week. I mean, come on, wake up! You know there is a gun there, don't speed down San Gab Blvd. OK, enough of the rant. I pay for her insurance and everything else. Don't say it, my balls have been cut off years ago.

    I need to know:

Best Laser detector, currently leaning towards the Valentine 1.

    Best Laser jammers, ????

Any other tools that I can use to help me against these laser guns. The war is on and I am gathering ammo for the battle.

    TIA,

BTW, she didn't even have a plate on the car. What did they use to reflect the signal back to the gun? The cop scolded her for no plates, but no ticket. Plates aren't going on the car till she gets a ticket for it.

no plate needed for a laser signal to reflect, are you sure it was laser?

I just bought a V1 a few months back, works just fine, the only thing that stinks is every once in a while when a newer car with the new Cruise Control (that detects when you are getting too close to another car) is behind me, it throws a laser warning, just be ware of that... other than that, the V1 is awesome, and the concealed display options out there are awesome

Interesting. I was wondering why I'd get some random laser beeps. Other than that, my v1 is awesome. It's still no excuse for speeding all the time though because it only picks up the cops that have the laser/radar ON. They can just be driving with it off...

yeah, it would freak me out, then I noticed that i kept getting false signals that would last FOREVER, and it was almost always one of those Infiniti Trucks that look like Nissan Moreno (spelling)... starting getting VERY annoying one night, I ended up setting cruise at the speed limit and turning the V1 off until the schmuck quit pacing me

    Re: Speeding Ticket!

just for the record, i really don't go around town speeding. she got a ticket for 9 miles over the limit. I have a class A license so i can't ever go to traffic school. The points stay on my license for three years. I have a clean driving record and want to keep it that way.

You guys thanks for the input. Interesting thing about the V1 and the falsies. Is there anything out there that is as good as the V1? If not, then V1 it is.

    Keep the info coming.

    TIA

A 9 mph speeding ticket is ridiculous but so is arming the car with radar detectors + laser jammers in response.

    Re: Speeding Ticket!

The cop aimed for headlights or taillights in the absence of a license plate.

The V1 is terrific, like everything else has its own foibles, most people adore it though there are those out there who abhor it and prefer some version of the Escort. ( <-- IMO)

A lot of people seem to like the Lidatek jammers, and mount them in the front grille which is a nice spot to conceal them.

FYI, though they're illegal in many jurisdictions many a cop has been fooled by stating that the park-assist (or adaptive cruise control) is what may have been spoiling their laser gun.

Alex Roy (of Gumball 3000 fame, aka Team Polizei) claims that having your car dirty, very dirty, will help throw the signals similarly to how the angular nature of the F-117A Nighthawk (aka Stealth Fighter) deflects radar signals.

Otherwise, look for brake lights, keep it within 20 over (for braking during the double tap radar locking procedure they need) and you should be just fine.

    Re: Speeding Ticket!

I was looking into a lot of different things. I have a V1, but I only use it on long trips. There are times when even having the detector will get you tickets. The problem with laser, is that once you've been hit with laser, they have your speed. It's over. Laser Jammers/blinders are the way to go. However, those are illegal in CA. Dodge2Dub has one, PM him about it.

The V1 is very good, however. I've been saved twice on long trips. I don't like it in the city because the false alarms come up quite a bit around shopping areas. You can use the mute button to shut it up from time to time. But like the instructions say, you have to look around the area and use your judgment. Just because you have it, doesn't mean you won't get a ticket.

BTW, if you pick up a V1, order it direct from Valentine, it's cheaper than the other radar sites.

To add to what Cliff is saying......I too have a V1, and have had one in my cars for years.....the cars that I know for sure constantly send laser false alerts are the Infiniti FX35/45 and the Lexus LS430/LS460.

    Re: Speeding Ticket!

Now getting back to what the OP was talking about...........a V1 coupled with lidatek or blinder would be the only way to go. I can honestly say that I have owned pretty much every other radar on the market (with the exception of the new Escort) and none of them can hold a candle to my V1.

Same here. Which for me translates to using it about 3 or 4 times per year. Even though it seems like a bad investment because it rarely gets used, it's not. It has paid for itself many times over.

I usually know where not to speed and can usually identify cop cars and speed traps well ahead of time, but the last time it saved me, I would have otherwise been ticketed. Passed a cop in an unmarked black ford explorer sitting in the right hand shoulder with his 4-ways on pretending to be a disabled vehicle. The V1 alerted me in plenty of time. He was walking around the truck shooting the radar in any direction he wanted. He kept the gun on me for a good while after I passed him too. A disabled vehicle in the shoulder would never have gotten me cautious about a possible speed trap. First and only time I've ever seen a cop use his 4-ways.

except the new escort 9500i is very good it has a gps filter and gps mark button to help you filter out false alarms and it works, the unit is ultrasentive and picks radar/laser from pretty far away. The only think it lacks that the V1 has is the direction arrows.

    Re: Speeding Ticket!

For what its worth, a couple of years ago I was picked off on the highway and wasn't over the threshold limit of speeding. My Escort SRX (stealth radar detector and laser jammer in one) made no sound - the cop had a radar detector detector ... Since laser/ radar units are illegal here, mine was confiscated (cut out of the grill and interior) and I was handed a ticket for $170. for having the unit but nothing for speeding. If I had played games and told him I didn't have a unit, rather than coming clean, I could have been given a summons along with $400. in add'l fees.

Beltronics STi here for Virginia because there is no leakage.

I also have a V1, but only use it out of state, since there is some leakage to RDDs at approx 500 feet. Many are aware the radar detectors are illegal in Virginia...and since Virginia has started using the Spectre III (a new radar detector detector), that is the only RDD that can detect a V1. Otherwise I would stay with my V1 all the time!

Without the arrows......you couldn't personally give it to me for free to use in my car(s).

Range is good......except for when you're driving your car at night and your radar detector goes off, and you don't know where the radar is coming from.

Consider a Uniden 996T Mobile Trunking Scanner in addition to the V1 and lidatek. It has the ability to match a GPS adapter to the unit and can tell where you are, pull up a list of frequencies for that area and see if any are in use within a short radius. It's also din-sized so mounting wouldn't be an issue. Rather pricey though.

This guy does not know how to test detectors....you do not test detectors side by side because they will interfer with each other.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ln4ip...eature=related

John Turner (In this video) says the Bel STi is better then the V1 in every test he does. In this video the V1 detected the signal first and even though the V1 continues to alert and point to the rear as the cop drives by and the Bel and Escort are quite. The only time I would own a Bel Sti is if I lived in area where detectors are illegal...but I dont so I own the best....The V1.

You can also program the V1 to ignore many types of false alarms. Thats what I've done and it works marvelously!

I agree...The V1 can be very noisey but with the proper user programming it can be very quiet and effective.

    Re: Speeding Ticket!

V1 is still the best and that's not saying much considering it's such an old design. Yes I know they continually update but still isn't there something better these days? Or couldn't Mike Valentine try harder?

    Re: Speeding Ticket!

I figure Mr. Mike V. thinks since the V1 is still the best all the round radar/laser detector/locater on the market just keep it that way. Other then making some tweeks to the V1 to take care of some very minor bugs that came with a new software ver. It would be cool if he make the band alerts different colors so they are easier to see but I just listen to the sounds and bogey alerts and I know whats going on without taking my eyes off the road.

V1 is the best hands down.

And someone else already said it, but buy direct from them. It's the cheapest that way, and you know you are getting the latest software.

You can buy on eBay/Craigslist too, just check the serial number on the Valentine Web site to make sure that it has the latest software or that the price is cheap enough where you are still getting a savings after having Valentine update the unit with the latest software.
