just got offer to buy my 2.8 > looking at an E30 instead

i've wanted to pick up a cheaper/easier car to work on and have been considering an E30. this one is for sale and i've already looked at it. seems to be in alright shape:

dude came and looked at my car today, offered $6700. that's with sport shocks and the BBS wheels. the E30 is going for $3000. i figure even if it needs some work, i can still put a good amount in to savings. any thoughts? i f'ing love E30's but am i making a mistaking getting rid of the 2.8 tip?! (why am i even asking).

i eventually want to get a 1.8 manual so i figure the 2.8 is only going to decrease in value and i'm so sick of an auto tranny. is now the time? aaaaaah.

If it were me I'd just look for a 1.8t manual instead. E30's don't look remotely as good as a b5 a4. I understand you wanting a manual though, all my cars are manual, rented a few autos and every time I'm reminded why I drive manual. I'd get sick of it too.

Eh im not sure about an E21 due to the age. The newest it can be is 25 years old.

i wouldnt do it just becuase ull have a 2wd underpowered old ass beamer that will prob break down on you. Even though it does look kinda cool and is 5 speed. Trsut me my friend had a 97 12v a4 and really misses it now that he drives a e30 325i. Both manuals. There fun cars if u plan on tracking them out for throwing money into suspension. If you really want a 1.8t and manual. I dont blame u for the manual part, fuck autos. Then just sell your car and get what you really want.

Good choice! I like your car and even if you bought it for 3k and then put money into it you would still have a very much older car.

I would keep your car over the beemer you were looking at any day even with some cash in your pocket.

My wife and I had a 1990 318is for a few years, was totaled in an accident. I miss that car to this day. Highly recommended and very easy to work on. The 318is was a little slow, but at the Auto-X or a back road pure fun.

I'm not doubting that these cars are fun as they have a strong following and like you mentioned an easy platform to work on. I have looked into these as well because the potential of engines and suspension set-ups are vast indeed. But I would get one of these in addition to my Audi and not instead of.

that's what i want to do. i think i'm either keeping my car or getting a 1.8. and if/when i decide to build the 1.8 up, then get a seperate DD.

I love my a4 for everyday driving, for one thing there are tons are airbags as opposed to my e30's 0 airbags. And its 1000x easier and more comfortable to drive. Of course the e30 has it's advantages, but I don't want to start a war on an Audi Board Here are my e30s:

Pretty damn sweet M3. I wanted to pick one up but the prices sky rocketed on them in the recent years, I had the opportunity to pick one up for 8k with 103k miles back in 02, unfortunately at the time I still didn't have a license, so pissed, would've been worth a hell of a lot more today.

I don't know what kind of shape your car's in but I had an '01 2.8 automatic A4 with everything stock and about 75k miles and I got about $9500.

Why are you selling so low? Especially with those wheels.

i bumped my offer to him to 7500 if he keeps the wheels, 6700 is now without the BBS wheels. your'e right, that was prolly a bit low. plus i'm already needing to get some extra money together if i go after this 1.8.

I think you'd miss your Audi interior. Plus E30s look like buckets. I wouldn't even trade for a clean E36. For the money, I'd really just try to get a 1.8t turbo. I think BMW's are waay overated on the old used car market. If you want reliability I think Honda civics are as cool as E30s, that's not saying much though.
