    B7 Tint Pics?

    Yo,

Can some people post up some pics of different windows tints on their B7's? I am getting mine tinted on Tuesday and want to see some comparitive differences between different tints. If possible I would like to see some daytime/evening pics of each tint %, to give me an idea of how dark my car is going to look.

Just for reference, my car is an '08 Dolphin S-Line w/ Titanium Package. I am thinking 20%-30%, but I have a medical waiver so it doesn't matter how dark I go. However, I don't want to get pulled over every 10 min just because my windows are too dark.

    Thanks,

    ~James

    Re: B7 Tint Pics?

Well if your interior is black then 20% should be pretty good, especially at night. I have 6% on mine, but lets hope i dont get pulled over.=]

35 on the sides, 20 in the back window is what I have.

BTW, what sort of medical waiver allows you to have darker tint? Migraines? (i'm not trying to be sarcastic, just curious.)

    Re: B7 Tint Pics?

IMHO anything that is lighter than 20% is not worth it because it will not have a nice blacked out look that most people are looking for. Tint doesnt make any sense otherwise.
Here is a thread with my tints 16% 3m color stable tint. so far its very good. I have alot of pictures http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ht=baby+tinted

As long as you get a high quality tint i wouldnt worry about seeing out at night. I have a friend with 3m "5%" (really 8%) tint and it is really easy to see out at night with street lights and all. its really not that bad at all. If i lived a little farther south i would have gone 5% easily

That's not necessarily true. I had 35% tint and unless you had ceramic or metallic tint I can guarantee that it had better heat deflection than your 16%. Why? Because ceramic has double the heat deflection vs dyed tint, AND doesn't interfere with electronics like metallic tints do. I also have NEVER been pulled over for tint and even when I was pulled over for speeding never got a tint ticket here in CA where any tint less than 70% in front is illegal. The complete BLACK OUT looks is not the ultimate goal of TINT, which by definition only provides a degree of opacity. That may be your goal, but not everyone else's.

For me, it is heat deflection and interior protection plus a sense of added privacy.. not complete privacy since we can't tint our fronts.. might as well get a limo and a driver if you want complete privacy.

    Re: B7 Tint Pics?

I hate you guys... I've been trying for a month now to justify why I should NOT get tints...

    1) I drive through Jersey EVERY day to get to work, and I used to get pulled over in my old car with 20% all the way around every 3 or 4 days... they wouldn't give me a ticket because I'm from New York, but they would waste my time nonetheless...

1.5) Cops seem to like cars with tints because I know that if I was tinted already, there would have been some situations where I would have definitely got pulled over, but because the cop looked at the car, saw a completely stock A4 with no tints and a guy in a suit driving it, they let it slide... Just my opinion but it's happened three times so far...

    2) In the old Civic, the sensitivity on my Passport 8500 seemed great... ... ... until I put it in my A4 with no tints on it (so far... bastards... did I mention I hate you all? ) and the range seemed to go up by 60 to 70 percent... I figured it was the tint, but I didn't know why until right now when someone mentioned metallic tint, or ceramic tint...

So my question for you guys is this... Since all these cars look great, whether it be 5% or 35% (the latter is what I'm probably going to end up doing... I really like the idea of 20% but I have a feeling I'm going to get hassled by the poh leese), what kind of tint can I get that will affect the range on the Passport the least. Also, are there any reputable shops that anyone knows of in the Rockland County area of New York... I'm not averse to taking a trip across the Hudson into Westchester if the shop is good.

Also, I used a shop in Queens on my previous car and they only charged me $120 dollars. The tint never bubbled, but it did start to fade after three years. Friends of mine who have a B6 S4, Acura TL, STi all got their cars tinted, and they all spent around $250 because they got it done at the same place and they all swear by the guy, but does that seem overpriced to anyone or is that about right to get my A4 tinted?

P.S. - I hate you all, why did someone have to start this thread?

while some people on here make it seem like you'll get pulled over for illegal tints its simply not the case in all areas especially depending on what kind of car you drive. a cop is more likely to pull over a 96 civic with 2.5% tint and a fart pipe than a classy german sedan like the a4.

I had my last car (suv) tinted at 5% all around for 3 years and never got pulled over for tint and never got hassled when i did have the tint and did get pulled over. bottom line it depends on a lot of different factors, here is dc/md it seems to not be a problem.

go to tintdude forums and find a local place on their you can even chat with a shop owner, I got metalic tint on my car to help save the leather because im moving to FL and will need to reflect the heat, my 9500i seems to do just the same as before and doesn't interfer enough for me to consider taking it off. I paid 205 with tax for all my windows to be done 7 in total.

Today I finally got pulled over because he could tell i had metallic tint and said it can blind another driver ( end of the month pointless ticket), I played dumb but still got a fix it ticket but don't care ill just pay it. I had the officer run the tint meter on the windows the fronts came out to be 27% and the rears were 21%. I love my ability to see out during the day and at night because of the higher grade tint so don't go cheap.

    Re: B7 Tint Pics?

I can't get a pic until tomorrow, but I just did Huper Optik 30 on mine this weekend. Came out great. I actually wish I had gone with the 40 so it was even lighter. Other than Huper Optik's 20, 30 has a higher heat rejection than any other tint out there, but it won't screw with the electronics in your car since it is ceramic. And it doesn't have to be black as night to do it. I didn't want the blacked out look. I don't like that look on silver cars. I hate to say it, but you see a lot of silver BMW's with Huper Optik. It is hard to find shops that will do it, or do it right, because it is thicker than normal tint, and harder to work with. I had to drive to Tampa from Orlando because I couldn't find anyone here to do it. It will also run you about 3 times as much as a Llumar job. It's even more than the top of the line Pinnacle. But I love the look, and it's a small price to pay for quality tint with a lifetime warranty if you plan on keeping the car for more than a year or two, which I do. Plus it's legal, so no cops to deal with!

    Re: B7 Tint Pics?

any opinions on solarguard films? a shop around here is about $100 less than the shop carrying 3m with the same warranty.

also, metallic or non? i understand metallics allow less heat gain and look 'deeper', but also cause some radio interference.

FYI, looking at 20% on quartz gray with black interior.

    Re: B7 Tint Pics?

The guy that did mine used Global Film. This guy has been in business as long as I can remember him being in my neighborhood (Probably 12-15 years). This guy is always booked a week ahead of time, so I figure he knows what the hell he is talking about. His take on 3M Film was that it's good, but its a supreme bitch to put on compared to other films. Said he used it for 5 years and then decided to change. He still uses it on Residential/Commercial projects, but he says it is harder to work with on the automotive side. The Global Film has all of the same lifetime warranties (purple, fade, bubble..etc) and has about 5% better heat rejection. Mine was $267.50 to do, which was comparable to the 90 mile drive I would have to make for Llumar @ $245.

Check Solarguard's warranties and see what %Rejections they have for Light/Heat/UV etc. You should be able to compare that to 3M/Lumar and make an eduacated decision about how good the film is.

3M advertises that there stuff is non-metallic, not really sure what the significance is, but I remember seeing a Big Banner Advertising non-Metallic. To be honest my %20 Global Tint reduced my cars sitting interior temps by a noticeable amount. It's still warm, but nothing NEAR what it is normally.

Someone earlier asked about the waiver I was getting. I am getting one for headaches and sensitive skin. It will fly because I have had 3 major head injuries along with amnesia for 3 months.

    Later,

    ~James
