    MT vs auto

I know that this might not be the best place to post, but statistic showed 1/2 of the A4's purchase in US r MT. I read this on motortrend today and thought this might be an interesting piece. What is your preference?

I find it hard to believe, finding a nice MT A4 is hard to do.

    Re: MT vs auto

Manual would be fine for a second car/weekend cruiser, but auto for an everyday driver. I've had 4 manual cars and getting stuck in a traffic jam is not the most pleasant thing, no matter how nice of a car it is. Auto transmissions might not be as fun, but performance-wise, some of the newer automatics and semi-automatics easily outperform manuals.

    Re: MT vs auto

I chose Auto because I wanted a car that I could crews around in comfortably but these cars scream "drive me" so a part of me wishes I had gotten a MT. If are able to ignore the voices then the auto is probably the best option, but for the rest of us the auto is the little angel on your shoulder holding back performance and some of the fun.

    Re: MT vs auto

If the A4 had DSG I would have bought that as opposed to a manual, but I refuse to own a Tiptronic so 6MT it was. That statistic is kinda hard to believe. However, I think my car was a special case. No one wanted a luxury model 6 speed except for me (S-Lines are WAY easier to sell in 6-speed). I snatched up that steal of a deal quick. It was 4X4 for maybe a week before I dropped it, put the RS4 Rear Sway in it, and threw rims on it. The sales guy even told me the only reason he showed it to me was because he knew I didn't give a shit if it was S-Line or not, the price was unbeatable, and it was a 6MT like I demanded. He said "Check this one out cause I know you're gonna fuck with it anyway.". Yeah...he was right.
Papachristou: i just said "yeah well you are still driving a neon, and she still wants to ride in my car"

    Manual.

You can shift at low rpm's and literally take control of your gas mileage and acceleration. With proper shifting, manual transmission's life is longer and corrective/preventive maintenance is cheaper than automatic.

Also less wear on brake pads.

    Re: MT vs auto

That doesn't sound right to me. When I was searching for mine, I would say that less than 20% of listed A4s on autotrader.com and cars.com were manual.

As for preference, everybody is going to have a different opinion depending on where they live and what driving conditions they face every day. All my cars have been manual except one that I bought with DSG and lasted me only a few months. Driving is fun to me and "auto" and "fun" don't belong in the same sentence.

    Re: MT vs auto

Well where i live to have a manual gear box really sucks, due to the stop and go traffic. i really perfer to have a automatic but if i lived where there was open road id get a manual no question about it.

    Re: MT vs auto

Manual, The only reason i would get an AUto is if 5/7 days i was in 5mph traffic. otherwise i love my MT so much better then the Tip! Being able to boost when you want and not when the cars computer wants is great.
