So I am mid console replacement and we noticed something. The new console from Audi does NOT have the cutout for the armrest in it. And looking at the cut on the original console, it is post construction. The cut is precision, but the edges are rough. So I am curious at one point during assembly was this cut made in the console. As far as I know there isn't anyone running around without armrests like my console would suggest. But this console was matched to my VIN with ETKA, so who knows. Anyways, we are just going to dremel that hole in. But definitely not something I was expecting.

really? I did not know that. They also can't talk on their cells while driving there. They should make that a law here in the States too. Probably prevent an assload of accidents involving chicks.

    sorry for the jack

I had the same thing happen when I replaced my console. I was told that the replacement consoles aren't sold with the holes pre-cut. You just need get it close.

    Re: Effin' A!

It's not too hard to get it out. It's a lot easier if you have your new one there so you can see where the bolts are at.

Yeah, not a huge snag, just a minor annoyance. And interesting to me that they are sold that way. And yes, the console is fairly easy to remove.

hi from England myself, my car originally came with no armrest so had to cut that hole out to fit a arm rest its very easy, and your right here you are not allowed to multitask as you drive, just drive and thats it, no drinking, eating or talking on a mobile phone (cell). oh yeah and we get ripped off for fuel he he

Just make a template off of your old one. Use some blue tape and mask it off to prevent maring and cut it out.

From what I remember the armrest was a dealer installed option. All the consoles are manufactured without the hole.

    Re: Effin' A!

What are you gonna do about the missing sound insulation on the new console? Damn it I plan on ordering a new console, but I didnt think I would have to modify it. Is the new console for a B7 or B6?

It's a good thing that the armrest base covers the hole, so it doesn't have to be 100% perfect.

Nothin', that insulation, if you want to call it that, is so thin I highly doubt it does much to damper any sound. It is a B6 console, price depends on your dealer's markup. The MSRP for Beige or Black is $151.25, and $186.03 for Blue, Gray, or Platinum. Dealers tend to markup from there, some worse than others. McDonald Audi in Littleton, Colorado has a ridiculous markup, ballpark around 230%.

I ordered some Edead sound dampening material anyway and that $151 price is still ridcoulous. Its $104 at genuineaudiparts.com.

For the record, Genuine IS Miramar Audi in San Diego, California. And I'm not sure why you think thats ridiculous. A full length, brand new center console from Audi for $150 is cheap as shit.

    Re: Effin' A!

If I can get something for 1/3 off elsewhere, yeah , the higher price is ridiculous. Thats like buying a 6-pack for $15 bucks at the gas station , when you can get for $5 at the supermarket.

Wait what am I saying , I've paid $15 bucks for a single beer at a club. LOL

    Re: Effin' A!

The discount doesn't automatically make the original price ridiculous, in this case it just makes the discount cheap............
