    Things to check before buying

    Hey everyone!

I've been browsing this site for the past month or so now because I have been in the market for an Audi. I have my sights set on a B7 type, and I was wondering what kind of things I should check on a potential car before buying. I will be taking it to my mechanic, but he doesn't specialize in Audi, so if there is anything you guys would recommend he check for that he might not check otherwise?

The car will be a 2005.5-2006 Audi A4 2.0T with around 40k miles

Also, what kind of things can I look for myself before we bring it to the mechanic?

Thank you all for your help, and I look forward to being a B7 owner in a few days!

Sounds like you should buy a car that taylors to your mechanic since you can't seem to leave him.

Or break up with him and find someone else.

There are plenty of fish in the sea.

I should have put that he knows a good amount about Audi problems, but his shop doesn't specialize in Audi. I just want him to know about anything that could possibly wear that he might not know about.

My family and I have been going to him for a while, and he's been very good with our mixture of cars(everything from Ford to Lexus). However, if he has even the slightest doubt he may not be checking everything he needs to, or if there is anything really special an audi needs to be checked for, I can take it to someone else.

BTW: Did that girl in your avatar come with the premium package? I want one too!

Larson, buy a certified pre-owned audi, preferably a 2006 with free maintenance. that way if there are any surprises, you are still under warranty. and if the car has free maintenance, then it was likely maintained correctly.

I recommend buying a CPO also, since you can't beat the warranty. 50k mile factory warranty, then up to 100k mile (or 3 more years I think?) same bumper to bumper warranty with a deductible.

Since these cars are so new, there really shouldn't be anything wrong with them that you couldn't tell from driving them. Just check all of the electronics, any leaks in the engine bay, tire/brake condition, the usual...

The only issues I've had with my 2005 B7 was one latch on my rear folding seats broke (wouldn't latch back), my Bose amplifier was faulty so it wouldn't produce power when it was cold, and an o-ring on the block was bad and leaked coolant constantly. Everything was covered under my warranty though
    Ignorance is bliss.
