Most affordable way to drop your car without doing it half-assed?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My A4 really needs a drop badly, just look at the picture below for proof! It is starting to bother me and after I get some body work done from an accident and my brakes upgraded I think my next point of attention will be the suspension. I don’t want to slam it, mainly just get rid of the wheel gap, is my best bet coilovers? Or getting new springs and shocks separately like from H&R or Koni? Most coilovers seem so damn expensive, and I really do not want to pay over a grand if that is possible. So what are some of my options?

^damn i was just about to say CUT YOUR SPRINGS...but aftermarket springs would be the way to go..until you blow your stock shocks, which then you will replace them. i would just invest in used CO's or a good shock/spring combo

Youve got many options for under a grand. Bilsteins w/ H&R springs combo would be the most affordable combo.

coilovers. Do it once, and do it right. I was in the same spot as you and i just saved the money and bought a set of coilovers. I can adjust to my preferance and raise it for the winter.

OEM Sport suspension. Unless thats not enough of a drop for you, but it'll only run you about $200 then installation instead of the other methods mentioned so far. Get a 2002 or 2003 those are the best years for height but 02 is the best.

I got a used set of springs cheap...good temporary fix if you can get the dough for coilovers before you blow your shocks

+2... Don't waste your money on springs and shocks. Eventually you're going to upgrade, so you might as well do it right the first time.

Look in the classifieds. There are normally some pretty good deals on there.

Everyone aslways suggest coilovers but how many of you actually make adjustments to the coilovers on a regular basis? Everytime you want to raise and lower it youve got to take the suspension off to make adjustments then take your car to get an aligment.

I dont get alignments lol. Ive adjusted the height 2 or 3 times and Ive messed with the damper a few times also. Its perfect right now though

If you look hard enough (and probably wait long enough), you can find better deals. I picked up a set of Konis for 570 bucks with 4k miles. I just had to find a couple of screws and the wrench used for adjusting and I was all set.

I'm in the same boat as you. I thought about just getting some lower springs (I'm on OEM Sport suspension which came factory installed on my Ultrasport). But, I decided that I'm gonna hold off until a great deal comes along on new Coilovers and pick up a set. I'm most interested in the KW Variant 2 Coilovers but the Stasis coilovers also seem very nice. If a great deal on either of these came along, I'd probably buy them right there and then.

Thats funny cuz my coilovers have to be remooved to make any adjustments at least the ones in the rear.
