EDIT: Yeah I forgot to turn off T/C, but the tires were warm, and the road was dry, so it didn't activate anyway.

    EDIT2: Launch#2 (clutch slipping) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LngKYUqKrjw
    T/C off, road was wet.

dump the clutch at 4500 and shift at redline. my A4 auto is faster than that to 80, looks a little sluggish.

The camera was kind of restricting my view.

I'll try that tomorrow and post it.

    1) I'm not the first owner of the car, and I don't know how hard the previous owner(s) have driven the car.
    2) I drive it pretty hard.

    Re: Rate this launch

I drive all my cars hard and I've never blown a clutch that early. Unless someone drove the car with the clutch half-in all the time, something sounds amiss.

I've heard around 3k-4k. Only seemed to slip when I taped that. On the ride home I didn't feel any slipping.

your clutch isn't that bad.... that's to be expected for someone who drives their car hard and has your mileage... Don't let anyone over exaggerate...

    Re: Rate this launch

I think that dumping the clutch above 4000k is a hugh mistake in these cars they are too heavy and the only possible result is to overheat the clutch, (I did this once) I can bet your clutch feels fine today. In my experience you only need enough throttle so that when you launch you get a tiny bit of wheel spin.

If you look at this video in the second race from a stop you will notice I did not rev the car to some obscene rpm to get a good launch. You just need to practice.

That's what I've heard. Rev it just high enough (around 3k) and dump the clutch. If you rev it any higher it really damages the tranny and the clutch since the S4 is so heavy, and it has to get all 4 wheels moving.

What did you do in the vid? How high did you rev it?

I wasn't getting any wheelspin because my buddy told me to let out easy on the clutch and as soon as the car starts moving, then dump the clutch and floor it.

I really could not tell you the RPM, in time you can just feel it and hear it when it is right. On the street you can get that slight little spin. It will take some practice, I tried to do a quarter mile run on a drag strip once, I'll never do that again. The car hooked up so well it ripped three mounts, never again.

These are my experiences others have tried different methods.
