If that is the case, why is it that now that I am trying to buy some H&R race springs, that it lists no engine???

They are different. The fronts have a different spring rate due to the engine size (wieght). Same reason why avants also have adifferent spring rate. The extra weight in the rear.

Depending where you are getting them from you should ask the seller/retailer about specifications to what application they are for.

Straight from H&R themselves... Same part number... Says that it fits all AWD 96-01... 29996-1 is the part number...

Yep apparently the H&R springs are exactly the same for the 1.8 and the 2.8.....from what I've heard the H&R sport springs sit too high in the front if you have a 1.8 due to the spring rates not being optimized.

I don't own them though so this is just what I have heard.

I don't care, as long as it's lower than the OEM sport...

I always thought they were supposed to be different, too. Just checked STaSIS and they have the same part # for the 2.8 and 1.8t. Weird!

Maybe since they are race spring, the spring rate is so high that the spring rate to weigh ratio make no difference?

That's what nuespeed told my friend when he called about it.
