    tapp intake setups

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm about to go 3071r with a tapp tune shortly. I know one of the biggest problems with the tapp tune is dealing with the sensitive lightning maf... I would like to see pics of how people have their intakes set up and how they are routing the pcv(or running catch can) and the dv.

    Re: tapp intake setups

    hey whats up,
i have tapp GT3071.. ford lightening maf...
i have tried different ways of setting up , currently i have it set straight down from the turbo... and i didnt noticed any difference.

I;m going back to my original setup and just position the maf so that the sensor is in different spots... and try that..

i have tried putting a screen in front of the maf.. i ran lean.... i ran a screen in front and back of the sensor... and the idle was at 800 instead of 1k..

its all about trial and error....

    GOOD LUCK>>

i'm so glad i bought a 2001 for a mafless tune. Try a 4" 90* bend down to the maf and filter. a short stubby filter and I just barely miss the ac compressor.

Never mind you have to run a MAF Well you could convert the MAF to MAP and all but screw that. You're going to be needing to do what Poopie recommended. The issue is you need a straight section about 2-4" long just before that 4" MAF to prevent any turbulence from interfering with the readings.

Yeah, I figured that would be the easiest way. Are you tapp guys running a dv or not reciculating it? Also, most of you guys just running a catch can instead of running the pcv into the intake?

I'm a UNI guy. I'm a 2001.5 DBW who runs no PCV - I straight dump (was running a CatchCan but hate the smell in the cabin), no MAF and no SAI and 3" Turbo Back with no CEL UNITRONIC and 2001 FTMFW I run a BOV venting to Atmosphere.

I had a catch can setup and then simply pulled the can and open dump it. I have had no PCV for 9k miles now.

I'm wondering the same thing .... Would like to compare to others that claim that their idle is all good and straight. Mine still have minor misses and dips at idle.

i had it setup like that for a while. just a filter on the valve cover opening. had A LOT of oil residue in that area from it. LOTS i tell ya.

now with the catch can, it stays clean and there is no difference in cabin smell..

where was your catch can? between the 2 fire walls?

Nope, but at idle there were: (at operating temp)

    - no misfires
    - idle was fluctuating between 920-960
    - maf readings were ~2.1 g/s
    - 0 cyl retardation (all 4)
    - there was some timing correction but I forgot what the values were

    Re: tapp intake setups

the hardest part is getting a good idle - i had some luck with using the atp TIP - that fit like crap and attaching that to the 90mm MAF and a stubby K&N - with a pretty thick fence material i found at home depot to smooth out airflow - but it is hard to get a MAF that big to get good readings - and with the very limited room under our hoods to get enough tubbing before the MAF. Trust me i probably put another + 50 bux and plus in order to get more tubbing there is just no way. I got a 90 deg bend thinking it would go down but not enough room from the frame - a 180 degree won't fit - since the pipe was like 3.75 inches in diameter.

    I just gave up - sometimes i get a good idle sometimes i don't - at least i tried

here is my intake, the 90* bend black silicone, air filter, and 22* bend aluminium pipe were all bought at pep boys, the 4' inch silicone and lightning maf...the whole intake setup was 225 bucks, the maf being the most expensive @ 120bucks, oh plus i have a piece of window screen before the maf. my hole intake is 4'' diameter.

yah ur right - something is up - but the problems that tapp at least said is probably the MAF that is acting up cause some people buy refurb MAF that arn't calibrated that could contribute to the problem.

damn..... I got mine from ebay and it had the either the part number scratched off or serial number. I'm going to log my var tomorrow.. But the only problem I have is at idle. Under normal temp. The car feels to miss fire when idling at light, or stop sign!

I guess I'll find out as soon as I log it!

I haven't tried venting. If you can get away with it, I suggest it. Routing the DV line sucks.

    Re: tapp intake setups

at the beginning I was recirculating it, recently I have installed hks bov, and no problem. As long as the valve stays closed at idle ,,, u should be okay!
