Going Stage 3 Immediate advice(Help) needed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 2000 S4. I purchased APR stage 3 kit, piggies, ASP true dual, bipipe, 710s. All were just installed and i get a call back from the shop that the car is running but on start up it released a decent plume from right side exhaust and slight oil build up on right exhaust. Would this be at all the case for a new exhaust break in or is this a bad turbo?Or install issues? If its a bad turbo does APR pay the re install costs. Any advice, help would be appreciated. This is getting expensive.
    Thanks

Well i dont think apr will pay for your re-install cost if you have to re-install anything.. but did they prime the turbos with oil before starting the car?? and will the car start again? how does it run?

Re: Going Stage 3 Immediate advice(Help) needed

Sounds like a crimped oil return line causing the oil to leak back through the intake and sent into the engine. I know this 1st hand as I've been there done that...

They told me the car runs and starts up well, just the issue with re-accumulation of the oil on the right side. They didnt want to drive it.

to be honest, when you install a new exhaust it puts out some white smoke. its because there is something they coat the exhaust with when the are making the bends. i would call APR tomorrow let them know. i think you may be OK. i would drive it around it should go away in a few days. i had it on my AWE twin one, called them because i was scared and they said its that coating

The car is at 034 in California. They should have plenty of experience with these installs. Hopefully they checked all possibilities. So Basically take the Turbo out and if its not a bad Turbo then it was an install issue. Can the oil return lines be check easily?

Re: Going Stage 3 Immediate advice(Help) needed

I thought about the exhaust having a coating and possible smoking issues, but wouldn't it be evident on both right and left?

Re: Going Stage 3 Immediate advice(Help) needed

If the smoke disappears after 10 minutes of running, then it's probably just the coating on the turbos, dp's and exhaust burning off. If not, then there may be bigger problems...

Would a crimped return line really cuase that much pressure as to blow a seal to the compressor, i was under the impression it would back out before it blew the seal. If so then looks like you'd need a re build or new CHRA correct?

034 Motorsports is one of the best Audi/VW shops in America. I highly doubt it had anything to do with installer error.

Even if you have a bad turbo, 034 shouldn't recharge you to replace it.

Re: Going Stage 3 Immediate advice(Help) needed

Well everything seemed to work itself out. They spent time in the morning checking all possibilities and could not see any cause for the smoke. So they drove the car around for a short while and the smoke slowly disappeared. Just going to keep an eye out for the next few days. Must have been exhaust related. Drove the car home tonight and it runs really nice. They had me freakin out there for awhile. They guys at 034 are very good

That's totally normal, like I said above. The coatings and oil on the turbos, piggies, and exhaust system will slowly burn off when they are brand new.
