Has a shop ever damaged your car?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just got my new avant inspected. Man, its so easy to pass a stock car. Anyways, i got home and I was working in my garage for like 5 mins. I look out and i see my bumper is sitting funny. My bumper is popped out, and it has two huge cracks on the lower half where my cupra r lip gets mounted. It definitely wasn't like that last night and this morning when I mounted my fog lights and re did my grills. I KNOW that THEY know that they fucked up my bumper. Cause they tried to fix it. I used all blue zip ties for the grills and stuff. I found they that tried to reattach my grill with a LARGE BLACK zip tie and they did it in a ghetto quick fix kind of way. I called them and they of course denied everything. After a pissing match on the phone I got smart and decided to call higher up. I called customer affairs and they gave me a claim number and are coming out to look at it.

This happed at Firestone Complete Auto Care in Montgomeryville.

So has anyone gone through this? What as the outcome?

Sounds like the tech hit one of the arms on the lift pulling it in. Any reputable shop would pay to fix it..... any reputable shop would tell you they damaged it also.

Re: Has a shop ever damaged your car?

I thought for our cars all they have to do is scan with the OBD port. That is what they did with my last inspection. None of that getting in, checking brakes, checking blinkers and blah blah blah. But I also got it done at a dealership that my freind works at.

But no, never had that happen to me. Though I have gotten wrong diagnosis before. Second, third, fourth, and fifth opinion FTW. And last shop that installed my alternator did not screw the front bumper fully in place.

Seems to happen to me whenever I take my car somewhere, I do not trust anyone with my car except me.

My buddy took his firebird to a shop last week, and now the clutch is alll fucked up. They must have had no clue how to drive it, and burnt it up (it is hard to drive, spec stage 3 with a lwfw)

Agreed. But it's up to the tech to be honest and own up to their mistake. Sometimes the office guys don't even know if the tech doesn't say anything.

What's sad is that these morons don't even tell you to go back to the shop so they can have a look at it. If somebody accused me of damaging their car, I would like to know what kind of damage they think I did.

Is "customer affairs" government affiliated? You should get them to dust your car for prints...LOL! I'm sure you'll find something on the zip tie.

Thats why I do my own work, or have my uncle at his hotrod shop do it.

Not much you can do about inspections though... Sucks poopie!!

In general you have to get pissy to get anything from them. Let them know their rep is on the line. It is a real PITA to get anything..

    Good luck!

One time I took my IS300 to lexus for rear brakes since I had no time to do then. I picked it up and was driving home on I-55. Thats when my CF hood decided to pop up and thank the lord I was able to pull over safely. Turns out they had popped my hood for some reason and never put the pins in, just the latch. Lexus wasn't happy about it, but they paid up. I needed new CF hood, fenders, windshield, all the plastics at the bottom of the windshield, etc. Poor tech lost his job too, I even told him not to pop the hood.

shit is pretty bad at shops. I HAVE to watch people work on my car or get it inspected. One of my aquaintances at a jiffy lube said he learns how to drive manuals on customers cars.

Re: Has a shop ever damaged your car?

The dealer scratched one of my rims. I had done a walk around with the service writer when I dropped it off. When I came to pick it up. I did a quick walk around and noticed a big chunk of paint missing off the wheel. I went to get a service writer and made him come look at it. Since I had done a walk around earlier and it wasn't there then they paid for it.

This is why you always do a walk around inspection of the car before leaving the lot. Good luck proving it once you leave.

I had a tire place fuck up one of my rims. the RS4's have that convex face, the idiot dropped it face down, took off a ton of paint. They denied it, I called the cops and had a report filed. Finally got them to cough up the $$ to get it professionally refinished.

Re: Has a shop ever damaged your car?

Sorry to say, but the fact that you left the premises, without saying anything, means you are now screwed. Unless someone comes otu and confesses fucking it up, you really dont have a chance in hell for getting money. Once you leave their lot, anything in damages is pretty much put on you. there safe. it sucks, but nothing you can do about it. if I was you I would fight it, but odds arent very good.. I had a shop bend my axle and they screwed me over on it after fighting it, having my credit card company fight it ect.. but since I left and came back 20 min later they werent responsible.. sucks..

O yeah, if you manage to get a bumper out of this, im callin dibs on your damaged one! ha

had Coastal Customs in Salisbury MA do my tint on my first audi and they scratched the shit out of the trunk, the worst part was that I watched them do it, and when I came out and pointed ou the scratch, they tried to deny it, so I got my tint dome for really cheap. Then the body shop that did the work to my new(er) audi scratched one of the door moldings, its not really bad, but its about 2 inches long and its all I see when I look at the car.

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but I HATE it when shops turn me down for something bc its an Audi.
    EX: Exhaust shop.
I call them asking how much it might cost just for an axle back setup, they ask me what kidna car and instantly they say it might cost me more, they dont "work" on those kinds of cars, etc.

Re: Has a shop ever damaged your car?

I had a large dealership service department work on my wife's Jetta (extended warranty deal). It was the same place we bought the car from, so I decided to give them some business because they were really nice people.

Long story short the tech thought it was the ECU that was causing misfires (lol) and tried to remove the ECU and ended up putting a few hairline cracks in the windshield. On our way to the VW dealership (45 minutes away) I saw the cracks and called them, they said they would have to talk to their tech in the morning to see if he did break the window.

Surprising I got a call first thing in the morning saying that the tech said he did put cracks in the window and a new windshield is already ordered. Came in next day, got the window fixed, never went back again.

A tire shop scratched the crap out of my friend's RS4 replica rims. He ended up fighting with them and got them to fix it but it took a lot of time. That sucks dude. Just keep fighting with them.

Since they are a big franchise they actually have a claim service that handles it and I don't have to deal with the shop. Hopefully they just find the shop liable.

the shop drove my car through a garage door. they replaced the brakes as part of the service plan at 30k. the tech didnt pump up the brakes. he took it off the lift, backed up, must have slipped it into first and drove forward. the door was down, he hit the brakes, nothing, he yanked the e-brake sa hard it ripped the handle off. the car went through the door. ripped off the washer caps from the bumper, ruined the grill, and just scratche dthe bumper. they fixed it all and replaced my aftermarket grill.

damn. Well its obvious that they caused the damage for you. In my case they are denying it all. If I get stuck with the bill i'm camping out at the entrance to the shop and directing the customers elsewhere.

Re: Has a shop ever damaged your car?

Had my car in a shop to change the hood latch wire (sp?), and when I got it back the footwell behind the drivers seat was full of water. They hadn't put the seal back in properly. I was so f*** pissed when I found out I had a swimmingpool in my car!

And another time my front bumper was cracked when the car was towed on to a flatbed truck. The company that towed it payed for the repairs and respray, but that was after a couple of days of arguing with them.

Hell yeah, them S.O.B's. I drop my car off to get coilovers on and when i pick it up, i seen a dent in my D/S fender, The owner going to say it was there when I dropped it off. I knew it was a lie, Affte plenty of thoughts of whuppin his ass or whoevers ass that did it, I just left , Paid like 80 bucks and had it fix. Lesson learn, now when i drop off my car at any place , i do a walk around.
